Lovelorn Pokémon Breeder Brock has been getting rejected by the women he becomes instantly infatuated with since the first series of the Pokémon anime. For all his maturity and wisdom, the sight of a beautiful woman can send all rational thought out the window as he becomes consumed by the prospect of finding love.
One would think that after 21 years, Brock would have been able to find a girlfriend. Although several women have taken an interest in him, it's never quite worked out. He's racked up a fair few rejections in that span of time, and some of them have been absolutely brutal.
10 Brock's Breath Was His Downfall With Nurse Joy
In "Gotta Catch Ya Later," a heart-eyed Brock introduced himself to Nurse Joy by asking: "Do you believe in love at first sight, or should I walk past you again?" He then implored the bemused nurse to smell his breath, which he claimed was as fresh as she was. Nurse Joy's reply cut straight to the bone: "You might want a mint," causing Brock to turn blue and fall to the ground.
9 Brock Was Completely Immasculated By Aya The Ninja
In "The Ninja Poké-Showdown," Episode 32 of the original series, Ash, Brock, and Misty headed to Fuchsia Gym. When Brock complimented the outfit of Aya, the younger sister of Koga, the Fuchsia Gym Leader, and told her she looked lovely, she slapped his hand away and knocked him to the ground with ease, then proceeded to talk to Ash and Misty while repeatedly pushing her foot into Brock's face like he was some needy dog.
8 Brock Tried To Flirt With Officer Jenny And Got Arrested
In "Once in a Blue Moon," Brock started flirting with Officer Jenny, and her reaction was to handcuff and arrest him. Of course, this wasn't the real reason Brock was arrested, but with a line like: "Your whistle is like the song of a beautiful lovebird," perhaps it should have been. What the gang was really arrested for was violating Quagsire Preservation Restrictions, which prevented people from capturing or battling Quagsire in Cherrygrove City.
7 Brock Was Rejected By His Tag Battle Partner For Being Too Young
Brock and Pokémon Trainer Holly were paired together in the Hearthome City Tag Battle Competition in the episode, "Tag! We're It!" Brock couldn't believe his luck to have been matched up with Holly. He ran over to her and she asked if he wanted to play "tag" with her.
Brock laid it on thick, but Holly told him she wasn't interested in younger men. Brock's face then went white with horror. Down the line, Holly developed an attraction to Brock because of his battling skills, but this first meeting was nothing short of a brutal rejection.
6 There Was Zero Romance Between Brock And Paris
In "Arriving in Style," the 86th episode of the Diamond and Pearl series, Brock hoped to impress Pokémon Stylist Paris by informing her that he reached the top four of the Hearthome City Tag Battle Competition. The debonair Paris had recognized Ash as the winner of the competition on the street and stepped out of her limousine to speak with him. With Croagunk primed to strike with a Poison Jab to break Brock out of his lovestruck state, it turned out it wasn't necessary, as Paris politely informed Brock that she didn't realize he was also in the competition, which Brock's Croagunk found hilarious.
5 Brock Tried To Stoke Solidad's Fire But She Was As Cold As Ice
Solidad is a Pokémon Coordinator from Pewter City. Brock and Solidad used to see each other often back when Brock was the Pewter City Gym Leader. When Brock saw her in "May, We Harley Drew'd Ya," his hopes of rekindling their relationship were raised when she remembered him. But after an impassioned speech about it being destiny that they found each other again, Solidad casually said that she needed to go and speak to her old friend and rival Drew. "Brock didn't have a chance," as Max put it.
4 Nurse Joy Gave Brock A Game Over Before He Even Started Playing
Brock, Ash, and Dawn found an old, seemingly empty Pokémon Centre at Valley Windworks. While Ash investigated a mysterious plate of food on a table, Brock was most excited about seeing Nurse Joy. When she entered, Brock's face lit up, but the camera slowly panned down to show a wedding ring on her right hand. "Game over," said a crestfallen Brock. Rejected without so much as a single word, it was over before it had even begun.
3 Brock Was Close To Finding Love But Got Bumped For A Doctor
When Temacu first met Brock in "The Heartbreak of Brock," she fell head over heels. He'd prevented her from falling (literally), and she was so smitten that she even said she'd be happy to take his last name.
As it turned out, Temacu would fall in love with any guy who saved her, including James of Team Rocket and the doctor who cared for her when she fell during a battle with Team Rocket. She would later end up getting engaged to said doctor. Just when Brock finally found a woman who was interested in him, she went and fell for another guy.
2 Melanie Killed Brock Softly
Melanie was the character of the week in Episode 10 of the original series, "Bulbasaur and the Hidden Village." She cared for Pokémon that had been abandoned in the forest, including Bulbasaur. Brock unsurprisingly took a liking to Melanie and her Pokémon refuge and offered to stay behind and help her out, but she turned him down, saying she "wouldn't want to keep him from his adventures." The kindness and sweetness with which Melanie ultimately rejected Brock made it all the more brutal.
1 Brock Thought He'd Found Love Through Gloom But Gloom Was All He Got
Brock and Florinda Showers, the owner of the Xanadu Nursery near Pallet Town, seemed to form a connection. Brock helped her with pep talks that included lines like: "You love Gloom so much it doesn't get Gloomy." Florinda built Brock's hopes up by saying how his helping made her believe that she was ready to run the nursery, which she'd had doubts over, as long as "one very special guy is there to share it all with me."
Thinking she meant him, Brock proceeded to give an impassioned monologue about how he'd always dreamt of finding a woman as kind and caring as Florinda, only to turn around and see that she was talking about Potter, the resident gardener of the Xanadu Nursery. Brock fell to his knees, believing he'd never find a girl like Florinda again. Thankfully, Ash was there to reassure him that he'd find plenty of other girls to reject him.
