Each new entry in the Pokémon series brings with it plenty of new features and a heap of new Pokémon that join the franchise’s running total of lovable creatures. There are now nearly 1000 unique Pokémon out there and some of the ones that are the most powerful and important are those that qualify as Legendary Pokémon.
New generations of titles and more Legendary and Mythical Pokémon have showcased more extreme concepts, such as a God to the Pokémon world. This prestigious honor is reserved for Generation IV’s Arceus, but despite the Pokémon’s vast strength, there are still some other important Pokémon that could make for more satisfying deities.
10 Arceus Is The Creator Of The Pokémon Universe
There may be some debate over whether Arceus deserves to be the God of all Pokémon, but it doesn’t change the fact that the creature’s Pokédex entry and history explicitly refer to Arceus as such. The biggest reason that Arceus has this title is that it’s responsible for not just the creation of the Sinnoh region, but every region in the Pokémon world. Arceus is referred to as “The Original One” because it’s thousands of years old and predates the rest of the Pokémon. This all makes sense for a Pokémon that’s supposed to be in charge of everything.
9 Uxie Is The Best And Biggest Mind In The Pokémon Universe
Uxie is a Legendary Pokémon from Generation IV that sometimes gets overlooked due to its unassuming appearance. Uxie is both a Psychic- and Fairy-Type Legendary and at first glance, it seems to bear a lot in common with Mew or Celebi. Uxie is actually much more important to Pokémon’s foundation and it’s responsible for giving mankind knowledge. This means that Uxie’s psychic abilities are so intense that it’s practically omniscient and even making eye contact with the Pokémon can rob someone of their memories. Uxie also assists players in Pokémon Platinum against Giratina, which shows that it’s also strong.
8 Arceus Can Become Any Pokémon Type
There are plenty of different strategies when it comes to Pokémon battles, but regardless of a Pokémon’s strength, it’s crucial to consider what type of Pokémon they are and how this corresponds to their attacks. Plenty of battles are lost because of type advantages or disadvantages.
Arceus has a rare perk that it’s able to become any Pokémon type through the use of Plates or Z-Crystals. It’s a level of unbelievable power and freedom that makes sense for a Pokémon God. Every other Mythical and Legendary Pokémon is confined with their typing, but not Arceus.
7 Rayquaza Holds Dominion Over The Weather In The Pokémon World
It’s always important to not judge a book by its cover when it comes to Pokémon, especially when it comes to Legendaries. Rayquaza is a Dragon- and Flying-Type Pokémon from Generation III’s Hoenn region that doesn’t exactly look friendly. Rayquaza holds immense power and rules over the air, which is the home for some other strong Pokémon. Rayquaza can manipulate the weather, but some say that Rayquaza is responsible for it. Additionally, Rayquaza constantly keeps the Earth protecting from meteors outside of its atmosphere and it keeps Groudon and Kyogre in check, too.
6 Arceus Controls The Creation Trio And Lake Guardians
Pokémon has evolved and there are now dozens of different Legendary Pokémon that can even be sorted into different tiers of power. Legendary Pokémon are still on the rare side, but there are more introduced in each new generation. Arceus is pointedly in charge of the Creation Trio—Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina—who in their own rights have the power and abilities to be considered Gods. However, Arceus is also in control of the Lake Guardians, which is another trio of Legendary Pokémon. Arceus has power over so much that it makes sense that it’s the Pokémon that’s classified as a God.
5 Without Azelf There Is No Will For The Pokémon To Battle And Go On
Psychic-Type Legendary Pokémon are slightly more common than others, but Azelf is a Generation IV Legendary that stands out because of its fascinating backstory. Azelf is a tiny Pokémon and it doesn’t instill fear in others like some Legendary Pokémon.
Azelf is part of a sect of Pokémon that are responsible for humanizing the Pokémon world in certain ways. Azelf is specifically responsible for providing mankind and Pokémon with the drive and willpower to continue on in life and battle in the first place. Arguably, Pokémon would never have the motivation to fight without Azelf’s influence.
4 Arceus Can Give And Take Life As Well As Freeze Time
Pokémon can pack a devastating punch in the video games, but it’s often not until they’re highlighted in the anime series or one of the Pokémon movies that their power is truly realized. Arceus is a significant enough Pokémon that it’s pivotal in more than one film, but Arceus and the Jewel of Life is its big showcase. Arceus’ Pokédex entry refers to how it can restore life—as well as take it away--from any of its creations. It’s also able to explicitly freeze time when it’s presented with a particularly difficult situation.
3 Galar Would Be Rubble Without The Help Of Zacian And Zamazenta
Generation VIII’s Pokémon Sword and Shield are full of some creative new Pokémon designs, but the big Legendary Pokémon at the core of each title are some of the generation’s very best. Zacian and Zamazenta both draw inspiration from their game’s namesakes and they’ve been staffed to protect Galar from Eternatus’ Darkest Day armageddon. Eternatus is an extraterrestrial Pokémon that’s over 20,000 years old and represents pure destruction. If he was a force of good then he’d easily be the Pokémon God, but instead, Zacian and Zamazenta are more appropriate choices since they clean up its mess.
2 Arceus’ Mission Is To Protect The Universe
Some Pokémon have incredible power, but there’s no sense of purpose behind them and they’re left to just roam the wild or attack out of frustration. Arceus is a Pokémon that’s based around a goal and it exists to protect its creation, the universe, from any possible enemies. This is a very God-like role to play and Arceus even banishes Giratina away to Distortion World so that the Pokémon world can continue to exist. Arceus’ powerful arsenal of attacks operate on a global scale and abilities like Judgment specifically have the planet’s future and safety in mind.
1 Calyrex Ruled Galar As A King And Provided For The People
Pokémon’s latest entries, the Switch’s Sword and Shield, are full of strong new Pokémon and their Crown Tundra expansion introduces some of the most important Pokémon yet. Calyrex is a fabled Pokémon from Galar’s past that’s responsible for the land’s vegetation and the harvests. Calyrex is naturally empathetic and wants to provide for its people, even if it’s been forgotten. Calyrex is also important because it has two other forms, Ice Rider and Shadow Rider, when it fuses with either the powerful Flastrier or Spectrier, to become even stronger and surpass its Psychic and Grass-Type Pokémon roots.
