The DC universe and Marvel mostly stay strictly separated, with the exception of the occasional comic book crossover (like when Batman teamed-up with Spider-Man, for example). That never stopped superhero fans from discussing which hero is better and comparing characters from both universes.

Poison Ivy from DC and Gamora from Marvel seemingly don't have much in common, but in reality, they're more similar than one might think. Which one of them is better, though? Let's find out.

10 Gamora: Weapons

Gamora attacks Captain Marvel in Marvel Comics' Civil War II

Gamora became a hero in the MCU. But she wasn't always on the side of the good guys in the comics and fought its heroes more than once. She's dangerous and shouldn't be underestimated. Gamora is very capable when it comes to handling various forms of weapons. She's adaptable, quick on her feet, can devise a strategy even against a stronger opponent, but she seems particularly talented at handling blades.

9 Poison Ivy: Special Powers

As Lex Luthor said in the recent animated Harley Quinn TV show, Poison Ivy belongs among the A-listers when it comes to Gotham villains. Even though she often doesn't see herself as a villain. Ivy's powers make her a force to be reckoned with, as do her strong beliefs about what is right and what isn't. Ivy may not use blades like Gamora but she can still easily bring down her opponents by controlling plants and choking her enemies with them.

8 Gamora: Physical Strength

Both Poison Ivy and Gamora are good at fighting, but their individual approaches are vastly different. Ivy prefers to use the plants against her opponents or the chemicals she prepares. Gamora, on the other hand, is more of a direct approach type of fighter, and as such, she most likely has physical strength superior to that of Poison Ivy. Gamora is highly skilled at hand to hand combat, as she has demonstrated many times in the past.

7 Poison Ivy: Intelligence

As hinted above, Poison Ivy has one than more trick up her green sleeve when it comes to fighting her enemies, whether it's Batman or another villain who made the mistake of crossing her.

Gamora is no dummy, not by a long shot, but when it comes to intelligence and education, Poison Ivy wins this round. She designs her own potions and chemicals and shows that the brain does win over brawn sometimes.

6 Gamora: Training

You can be a natural-born fighter, but training is a basic requirement for everyone who wants to work on their skills as a fighter. Gamora has spent a long time training and honing her fighting skills in order to become the fighting and killing machine she is. That doesn't mean she can't be hurt, but she has learned how to suppress the pain and keep striking, no matter what it takes.

5 Poison Ivy: Costume

Let's leave the fighting and strength behind for a moment, though. A villain's power doesn't only lie in her or his physical skills, but in how iconic they are as well. And when it comes to determining who has the best costume, Poison Ivy wins. Even people who didn't read the comics can usually imagine what she looks like, either by seeing her in the animated TV shows or thanks to the ill-fated Batman and Robin film. Gamora, on the other hand, doesn't have a single truly iconic look and before the Guardians of the Galaxy premiered, most people didn't know what she looked like.

4 Gamora: Reputation

Poison Ivy may be more recognizable to the general public, but Gamora has built up a different kind of reputation. She's well-known across the galaxy and has a reputation as the most dangerous woman alive.

Her reputation, as people say, precedes her. People fear Gamora long before they meet her, which is useful in a ruthless galaxy in which only the strongest usually survive. Poison Ivy is infamous in Gotham, but Gamora's reputation extends far beyond the planet, much less a singular city.

3 Poison Ivy: Best Friend

Poison Ivy usually prefers to rely on herself and she doesn't tend to get along with people that well, instead she prefers her plants. But there's one strong exception to this rule, and that's Harley Quinn, Ivy's best friend (and sometimes a girlfriend, depending on the source material). These two women have been a great team ever since the early '90s. Not only do they trust and care about each other, but they also form a badass team together since their abilities complement each other so well.

2 Gamora: Superhero Team

Gamora may not have a best friend slash lover like Poison Ivy, but she's not alone either. The comic book versions of the Guardians of the Galaxy are a bit different from the MCU, but in both cases, Gamora can work well with others if she decides to do so. She can be a bit of a lone wolf and tends to sometimes do things on her own, but when it comes to fighting a mutual enemy, Gamora can rely on her friends and team members, and they, in return, know that she'll have their backs.

1 Poison Ivy: Popularity Among Cosplayers

In the end, it's Poison Ivy who wins the contest when it comes to popularity. Many people like Gamora but even more fans love Ivy, as is demonstrated by the large number of cosplayers who decide to emulate Poison Ivy with their craft. People do cosplay Gamora, of course, but Ivy is infinitely more popular when it comes to cosplaying, either because she looks better or because she's more well-known.

Either way, the battle between Gamora and Poison Ivy ended in a tie, but it was a close match and it'd certainly be interesting to see these two heroes/villains interact together if Marvel and DC ever decided to bring them side by side in a crossover.
