Director J.J. Abrams, writer Lawrence Kasdan and actor Oscar Isaac discuss the role of Poe Dameron in this clip from the "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" Blu-ray release.

Kasdan draws comparisons between to the Resistance pilot and Harrison Ford's Han Solo in the original trilogy, explaining "it's an archetype that all of us like." However, as Abrams and Isaac have discussed previously, Poe was originally intended to die early in "The Force Awakens," to the disappointment of the actor.

Luckily, however, Isaac was able to convince Abrams to let the character live, giving him a larger role in the film and in the new trilogy.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is available beginning today on Digital HD. The film, complete with the full documentary, will be released April 5 on Blu-ray.
