It's finally August, and a massive season of new games is about to start. There is plenty coming out this month, from Marvel's Avengers DLC to a new Madden and more. There's no shortage of games to play, but you've got a few weeks to make it before they come out.

PlayStation Plus owners looking to kill time will have plenty to do this month. August's offerings are slim, but they include some top-notch RPGs that can culminate in dozens, if not hundreds of hours of replay value. If that's not your speed (or you get tired of grinding stats), there's also plenty of fast-paced parkour action for you.

Nier: Automata

2B and 9S explore the world in Nier: Automata.

Spinning out of the Drakengard series, Nier: Automata is a sequel to the 2010 cult classic Nier. In Automata, players take control of YoRHa squad androids 2B and 9S in fast-paced battles to save the world from invading machine lifeforms.

Nier was incredibly well received when it was released in 2017, with critics praising its captivating gameplay, stunning graphics and rich narrative. The game has continued to find new fans through a series of ports and re-releases, but the vanilla version is what is coming to PlayStation Now this month. Players will also want to jump on the adventure quick if they're going to; Nier: Automata is only on the service until November 1, 2021.

Ghostrunner

Jack the Ghostrunner cuts through an enemy in Ghostrunner.

In the year since its release, Ghostrunner has carved out a hell of a niche. Ghostrunner sees players take on the role of Jack the Ghostrunner, an amnesiac cybernetic life form who is tasked with aiding a rebellion led by the mysterious Architect.

Ghostrunner was revered upon release for its sense of style and frenetic action. Jack has incredible mobility in the form of stylish parkour and powerful combat mechanics that culminate in the title's stylish one-hit one-kill mechanic, keeping gameplay on its toes no matter how long the adventure has run. A sequel is currently in development, but PlayStation Now members now have the perfect opportunity to dive into this adventure.

Undertale

Undertale Sans Shrug

Really, what can you say about Undertale that hasn't already been said? Inspired by some of the greatest RPGs of any generation, Undertale became a cultural phenomenon when it was released in 2015, and interest in the series hasn't died down yet.

A lot of that appeal comes from the game's twisting narrative and unique mechanics. Sure, you could face random encounters tongue-in-cheek or even try to fight everyone, but the game's designed to reward you for showing mercy too. Even more wild is how the game logs what you did in a game, allowing future replays to be altered based on your actions. Undertale is one of the most unique and thoughtful RPGs in years, and players who haven't experienced it yet only have themselves to blame now.
