Every month, Sony adds new games to its game streaming platform, PlayStation Now. May 2020 sees three new titles joining the service's massive library of over 800 games from the past three generations of PlayStation consoles.
As was the case in April, no major games are set to leave this month, meaning subscribers still have plenty of time to enjoy the services' current offerings such as Spider-Man, Control and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. While last month had plenty for fans of open-world games, this month is huge for fans of shooters.
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege
This 2015 multiplayer tactical shooter is the biggest game coming to the service this month. Though its initial sales were low, Ubisoft has continued to support the game with updates, allowing it to grow over the years. It has since become huge in the world of eSports, drawing comparisons to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
Rainbow Six Siege is a first-person shooter that has players control a variety of operators who come with their own weapons and gadgets and are based on different countries' Counter-Terrorism Units. The game is played in short rounds (four minutes in casual, three minutes in ranked) and requires teamwork and communication in order to succeed in either attacking or defending a map.
While it should be noted that this is just the base edition, which features 11 maps and five gameplay modes, this is the perfect opportunity for anyone who is curious about the game to give it a try. Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege is available to stream or download until November 2.
The Evil Within 2
Survival-horror fans who missed The Evil Within 2 back in 2017 should just out this addition to PS Now. The sequel takes place three years after the first game and, once again, has players controlling Sebastian Castellanos, a detective. After learning that his long thought dead daughter is still alive, Sebastian goes on a mission to the nightmarish town of Union to save her while discovering the truth about her disappearance.
The Evil Within 2 maintains the horror elements and stealth-action gameplay of the original while raising the stakes with a more personal and emotional connection to the story for Sebastian. While certain elements, including the character of Sebastian, were criticized, most critics agree that the game delivers a solid horror experience full of tension and thrills. The original Evil Within is also available on the service, so gamers have the opportunity to try out both.
Get Even
Finally, PS Now is adding Get Even, a psychological thriller and first-person shooter with puzzle elements. Players control Cole Black, a man who wakes up in an abandoned asylum with no memories aside from an attempted rescue of a teenage girl strapped to a bomb. Black must follow the orders of the mysterious Red, entering memories, examining evidence and trying to figure out who he is and why the girl was kidnapped. Certain choices, such as hot to deal with fellow inmates, have an impact on the final outcome.
The game received positive to mixed reviews when it launched, with many praising its unique mix of genres but criticizing how these were integrated into the game, as well as some awkward controls. Still, if you're looking for an unsettling and evocative experience and care less about the gameplay itself, Get Even will deliver that for you.
