Sony has been going strong in the video game space since its debut console, the PlayStation, in 1994. Countless franchises either got their start with the company's gaming platform or became household names once they moved there.

The large fanbases of these IPs demand more content, which is where comic book adaptations come in to fill in some lore gaps or give people a different way to experience their favorite games. Not all of the games below are still PlayStation exclusives, but they will always have a strong connection to the brand. The company's first-party lineup shows no signs of weakening, so expect more comic book adaptations in the future.

10 Crash Bandicoot

Crash manga

Sony's answer to the platforming mascots of Nintendo was Crash Bandicoot. While not an open game like Super Mario 64, Crash Bandicoot provides a more immediate and concentrated challenge.

In 1998 a manga was published titled Crash Bandicoot—Dansu! de Jump! na Daibōken. It is in this story where Tawna, the titular character's love interest from the debut entry, leaves him for Pinstripe Potoroo, a boss character.

9 Horizon

Horizon zero dawn comic

Horizon Zero Dawn is one of the most successful new IPs to come out of this generation. Guerrilla Games previously worked on the Killzone franchise but opted for an open-world adventure when starting a new series.

This comic book run only just started, and is set to bridge the gap between the first game and the upcoming sequel, Forbidden West. Considering the long wait between the two titles, fans welcome any new content.

8 God Of War

God of war comic

The first two God of War games squeezed every bit of juice out of the PS2 to craft the generation's two most beautifully gruesome experiences. The series' future was put into question after the less than stellar God of War: Ascension but came back in full force with 2018's God of War.

A six-issue comic published from 2010 to 2011 tells a story set between the first two games, complete with the series' trademark brutal violence. A more recent Dark Horse Comics series takes place before the most recent 2018 entry.

7 Sly Cooper

Sly cooper comic

Long before Sucker Punch Productions gave players an open-world samurai game and even before the Infamous franchise, the company made a name for itself crafting the Sly Cooper franchise. The thieving anthropomorphic raccoon clawed its way into PS2 owners' hearts with its blend of stealth gameplay and platforming.

One issue of the comic, published by GamePro and DC Comics in 2004 and 2005 were made to first promote the sequel, and then one more was crafted to get fans hyped for the third game in the franchise.

6 Spider-Man

Spider-man city at war

This is a weird entry, considering the character originated in comics, but the most popular game to feature the friendly neighborhood webslinger is a PS4 exclusive by Insomniac games.

The 2019 comic series, Spider-Man: City at War takes place in the game's lore. Additionally, the character shows up in Spider-Geddon, a follow up to Spider-Verse. No doubt more adaptations will come in the future with the upcoming Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

5 Resistance

Resistance comic

Insomniac made a more mature trilogy of games for the PS3 with Resistance. The first and third games are must-play titles for the console, while the second is merely adequate.

A six-issue comic book series published in 2009 does not follow the events of the game, but instead tells a story that exists on their periphery. Unfortunately, it does not seem like the series will return anytime soon.

4 Uncharted

Uncharted Comic

Nathan Drake's adventures constantly showcased the PS3's power and continued this trend into the next generation with Uncharted 4. The series' future is uncertain, but those looking for more content within the world can always read the comic book published in 2012.

The series tells an original story that does not directly connect with the games but includes characters from the sequels, including Chloe Frazier and Harry Flynn. Even those who are not fans of the game can enjoy this story.

3 Ratchet And Clank

Ratchet and clank comic

Spyro the Dragon was popular on the PlayStation, but Insomniac really outdid themselves with Ratchet and Clank. The series started on the PS2 and is still going strong today, with a new game set to come out on the PS5.

A small series was published during 2010 and 2011 which ultimately makes up one hundred and forty-four pages of Ratchet and Clank goodness. True to the franchise, each issue is a cheesy, thinly-veiled pun.

2 Last Of Us

Last of us american dreams

Naughty Dog made one of gaming's darkest tales with The Last of Us. Joel and Ellie's journey across the United States is but one chapter in each of their lives, however.

1 Metal Gear Solid

Metal gear solid graphic novel copy

The wild characters, melodramatic narrative, and futuristic technology makes the Metal Gear Solid franchise the perfect fit for a comic book adaptation.

The first two games have been fully adapted into the medium, with beautiful artwork by Ashley Wood, who also illustrated the cutscenes to Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops and Peace Walker. Those who find the older titles' gameplay hard to grasp should read this to experience the stellar plot.
