In some works of fiction, power over plants is connected to the classical element of earth, although this isn't always the case, with power over plants being treated as power over life itself. In Chinese mythology, "wood" was considered an element all on its own, separate from earth. As both Greek and Chinese myths are influential in Japanese media, characters with power over plants show up quite often in anime.

Some characters have direct command over plants, but some characters actually do the opposite; they instead draw their powers from plants and manipulate them in all kinds of ways. Added to that, some characters are just themed around plants without getting directly involved with them.

10 Pretear: Shin Is The Knight Of Plants

Shin is the Knight of Plants in Prétear.

Each of the seven Leafe Knights in this series has dominion over some element, with the youngest, Shin, having power over plants. Considering there are knights for wind, water, and fire, it's possible his power is meant to be seen as the equivalent of earth. In the anime adaptation, his power is mostly used to help create a barrier for Himeno and the other knights to fight.

The anime never has him fuse with Himeno, and lend her this ability, although she is seen accessing the Planet Pretear before transforming into the White Pretear. Ironically, Himeno herself has a fondness for flowers, having learned to take care of them thanks to her late mother.

9 Wedding Peach: Momoko Even Weaponized A Wedding Bouquet

Wedding Peach Momoko

Angels in the Wedding Peach universe seem fond of plants and flowers, as they even tend to be named after them. The first three Love Angels do double-duty on this: their names are Japanese names for plants and their alter-egos are their English equivalent.

Wedding Peach's first main attack even comes from transforming a bouquet of flowers into a magic wand that sends magic waves after a target.

8 Pretty Cure: Cure Flora Is The Princess Of Flowers

Cure Flora from Princess PreCure

There have been plant-themed Cures before, but, this time around, the series decided to throw royalty into the mix. The first three heroines of Go! Princess Pretty Cure are effectively the self-proclaimed flowers, sea, and stars. Cure Flora is the leader of the group, having dominion over flowers.

Her main attack is the "Floral Tourbillion," meaning a "floral whirlwind," where she practically explodes an opponent with a storm of petals.

7 Flower Angel: LunLun Is The Titular Flower Angel

LunLun

LunLun, also known as Angel in the English dub, is a classic magical girl who doesn't attack with plants as much as she draws her magic powers from them. In order to help the fairies of the Flower Star, LunLun is tasked with finding a magic flower for the royal family. She also has a magic pin that gives her a new outfit by reflecting different flowers.

LunLun is even known for giving people seeds for flowers that represent different virtues. Of course, this turns out to be the key to finding the royal flower, after all.

6 MÄR: Jack Has A Giant Venus Fly Trap In His Corner

Mar Jack

Jack is a parody of the hero from Jack and the Beanstalk, right down to his name, so he naturally has a connection to plants. He can summon Mehitos, a massive Guardian ÄRM that resembles a Venus flytrap that can both multiply and reproduce, even after being destroyed.

Commanding plant and earth techniques, he can summon giant vines, create plant shields, and even moves on to fungi with magic, illusionary mushrooms.

5 Cardcaptor Sakura: The Wood Can Overpower The Earthy Clow Card

Cardcaptor Wood

The Wood is one of the Clow Cards and it comes with the power to grow and control plants. It's actually aligned under the Watery Clow Card.

Not only is it a separate card from the Earthy, but Sakura also needed it to capture the Earthy Clow Card, since, according to the order of the Chinese elements, wood is superior to earth as an element.

4 Sailor Moon: Sailor Jupiter Is More Than Thunder & Lightning

Sailor Jupiter using Flower Hurricane in Sailor Moon.

In Chinese mythology, the planet Jupiter is associated with the element of wood. In the manga, Sailor Jupiter has a few plant-based attacks reflecting this, such as "Flower Hurricane" and "Jupiter Coconut Cyclone." The only attack like this that really survived into the '90s anime was "Jupiter Oak Evolution." Mako is even fond of taking care of plants, gardening, and flower arranging in her everyday life.

On the other hand, the anime seemed to give this power to another character: Tuxedo Mask, who always had a red rose to distract an enemy. They turned black when he turned evil and white during his stint as Moonlight Knight. According to one episode, they could apparently generate an energy field, but rarely did so.

3 Yu Yu Hakusho: Kurama Can Do A Lot With A Rose

Kurama Rose Whip

Kurama literally introduces himself in the opening using his rose whip. This being his signature attack, he uses his spiritual energy to transform a seed into a rose in bloom and then further transform it into a weapon: a whip covered in thorns that can cut metal. And that's only the basic version of the attack, as he's been seen having developed other variations on the trick.

Not only can he instill his power into mundane plants, he always makes use of his power to summon deadly plants from the yokai world, some of which are outright carnivorous or bloodsucking. Added to that, Kurama's shown to be so skilled with plants that he can transform them into anything he needs, from lanterns to a pair of wings.

2 Black Clover: Mimosa Vermillion Wields Plant Magic

Mimosa From Black Clover

Mimosa Vermillion is a noblewoman of House Vermillion and a Magic Knight. She tends to be kinder than other characters with a similar background; showing respect for Noelle Silva and her affection for Asta.

She has control over Plant Magic, which allows her to create and control plants. She normally uses this for supplementary spells, but she has found ways to use them as attacks. Her powers seem to connect her to life itself, as she is also capable of Creation and Healing Magic.

1 Naruto: Hashirama Senju Combined Earth & Water For The Rare Wood Release

Naruto: Hashirama Senju

As mentioned, plants and earth are sometimes treated as separate elements. In Naruto, the Wood Release comes from combining the Earth and Water Release. Hashirama Senju famously mastered this power, even once using it to create a forest.

He somehow had this power naturally. While the anime hinted it was inherited, as an ancestor was capable of using it, none of his descendants have been known to have it. Unfortunately, after he died, his body was exhumed so that his cells could be implanted in others in order to replicate the process, a deadly process that few survive.
