Marvel Comics has shared a sneak peek at Planet-Size X-Men by writer Gerry Duggan and artist Pepe Larraz, which -- among other things -- promises to introduce some brand-new Omega-level mutants to the Marvel Universe.
A double-length one-shot, Planet-Size X-Men #1 is set for release on Wednesday, June 16. "Fifty years ago, Giant-Size X-Men changed our world. This June, Planet-Size X-Men changes our universe," Marvel writes in its official press release. "This June, the Hellfire Trading Company invites readers everywhere to the inaugural Hellfire Gala to announce the first team of Krakoan X-Men to the world and reveal the startling plans that mutantkind has in store for the Marvel Universe."
The publisher goes onto explain that Planet-Size X-Men #1 will be a "pivotal chapter in the X-Men mythos with an epic story that has been built up since the very beginning of Jonathan Hickman's X-Men era." Furthermore, "Omega-level mutants will take center stage and new Omega-level mutants will be introduced as Magneto puts the pieces in place for an ambitious plan that will truly change everything." In other words, it looks as though Marvel's line of X-Men comics will soon see a significant status quo shift.
"Make no mistake -- this is an X-Men book drawn by superstar artist Pepe Larraz. It is absolutely the most important issue of the month," explains Marvel Editor Jordan D. White. "Pepe is absolutely the star of the X-line and he is doing the most amazing work of his career. You cannot miss this."
At this time, Marvel has shared four unlettered preview pages from Planet-Size X-Men #1 (in which Captain America even makes an appearance), as well as re-shared the book's main cover, which comes from Larraz alongside issue's colorist, Marte Gracia. The House of Ideas has also revealed two new variant covers, one by Olivier Coipel and another by Terry and Rachel Dodson.
