After more than 14 years, Pixar fans finally get a look at the Parr family together again in a new image from The Incredibles 2.
As part of its “First Look” issue spotlighting 2018 releases, Entertainment Weekly has debuted the first official image from The Incredibles 2, director Brad Bird’s highly anticipated sequel to the 2004 hit about a superhero family simply trying to get by. The still presents Holly Hunter’s Elastigirl front and center, ready to take on the dangers ahead.
The original film ended with the entire Parr family leaving son Dash’s track-and-field event, only to be interrupted by the arrival of a villain known as The Underminer. Last we saw of the Parrs, they were putting their masks on, getting ready to fight, and — judging from this photo — it looks like the sequel picks up right where the original left off. According to Bird, the parents will be the ones fighting, while Dash and Violet care for baby brother Jack-Jack.
And that’s pretty much all we know, as far as the movie’s story is concerned. “That’s all we’re saying for now,” Bird says, “but rest assured, there are a lot more superheroics in store for our ‘family dynamic.’” EW indicates that Elastigirl will indeed receive a larger role than in the original, while Mr. Incredible will be the one at home, caring for Jack-Jack, and his bad case of raging superpowers – something we already got a taste of in the teaser trailer.
The Incredibles 2 is set to hit theaters June 15, 2018.
