Baseball players and superheroes have a lot in common. They both spend a lot of time in uniforms, they're in peak physical condition, and they regularly perform the kind of physical feats that the rest of us can only dream about.
As the Pittsburgh Pirates embarked on a road series of 10 back-to-back games, they made this connection much more literal by dressing up as their favorite superheroes.
As MLB.com noted, the ballplayers dressed up as heroes from all over pop culture to create the cross-franchise superhero mashup that comic fans can only dream about. In addition to multiple versions of the X-Men's Wolverine and his occasional sparring partner Deadpool, some of the players dressed up as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Power Rangers, Spider-Man, Batman, Bane, Buzz Lightyear and The Incredibles' Frozone, among others.
The team put on their superhero suits after defeating the Atlanta Braves 6-1 in a home game at PNC Park.
The Pirates will head to Milwaukee to face the Brewers before heading to Atlanta for a rematch with the Braves and end their road series by facing off against the Marlins in Miami.
Since the Pirates probably won't get the chance to unpack their bags for a while, the superhero costumes could very well appear again before their stretch on the road is over.
