Disney is following the trend of other production companies and sending more films straight to streaming.The company announced that the upcoming adaptations of Pinocchio and Peter Pan & Wendy will skip a theatrical release and fly straight to Disney+. The announcement was made during Walt Disney's 2020 Investor Day, an event that showcased the company's upcoming content, including 30 Star Wars and Marvel projects. Along with the update on Pinocchio and Peter Pan & Wendy, Disney also announced the animated film Raya and the Last Dragon will debut on Disney+ the same day it opens in theaters this coming Spring.

Pinocchio will be a live-action retelling of the 1940 classic Disney story. Robert Zemeckis is set to direct the film, while Tom Hanks has been in talks to play Pinocchio's father and creator, Geppetto. Although the movie was originally announced in 2015, it does not have an official release date.

Peter Pan & Wendy is expected to be a live-action adaptation of the original 1953 animated film, Peter Pan. Directed by David Lowery, the movie will star newcomer Alexander Molony as Peter Pan, Ever Anderson as Wendy, Yara Shahidi as Tinkerbell and Jude Law as Captain Hook. Disney has not announced a release date for the film.
