Star Trek: Picard has released the first trailer for its long-awaited second season - and everything seems to be different.

The trailer kicks off as Picard is back at his vineyard, realizing things are amiss... and when that's the case, Q isn't far behind. Indeed, John de Lancie makes his return to the Star Trek universe to greet "mon capitan," sporting a grey goatee straight out of the Mirror Universe. "Welcome, my friend," he says, "to the very end of the road not taken.

We then see when the all-powerful being means. The cast of Picard, last seen in Season 1 taking off to parts unknown together after preventing an A.I. apocalypse, all seem to be living lives alternate to their previous ones. Soji (or is it Dahj?) stands in a crisp white suit, with a new hairstyle to boot. Rios seems to be back in Starfleet, having previously left the organization after the death of his captain.

But the most staggering by far is Seven of Nine, as the fan-favorite Voyager character is sporting a brand-new badge and face. In fact, the trailer implies that she's now living in a universe where she wasn't assimilated by the Borg.

Despite how scattered his crew is, Picard promises he will fix the broken timeline and save the future. It's a high bar to clear, considering how much is working against him. But if there's one man that can do it, it's Jean-Luc Picard.

Star Trek: Picard stars Patrick Stewart, Alison Pill, Michelle Hurd, Evan Evagora, Isa Briones, Santiago Cabrera and Harry Treadaway. Season 2 will premiere in 2022.
