Indiana Jones 5 producer Frank Marshall has revealed Phoebe Waller-Bridge's character's connection to the titular professor/archeologist.

Responding to a photo shared online of Harrison Ford and Waller-Bridge at the D23 Expo 2022, Marshall tweeted, "Indy and his goddaughter, Helena." While the producer didn't reveal any further details about Helena, commenters under the Twitter post have taken the mention of "goddaughter" to imply that she is related to one of Indiana Jones' old allies. Many have speculated that Indiana Jones 5 will reveal that she is the daughter of Marcus Brody, a British academic and curator who was portrayed by Denholm Elliott in Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), though this familial connection remains unconfirmed by Lucasfilm.

Marshall revealing Helena's connection to Indiana Jones comes shortly after concept art of the character was unveiled at the D23 Expo 2022. Helena's costume, which was reminiscent of the one worn by Karen Allen's Marion Ravenwood in Raiders, was also on display at the Disney convention. While Lucasfilm has avoided revealing any details about the character beyond her name and connection to Indy, the franchise's composer John Williams has previously stated that Helena is "an adventurer and a femme fatale."

First Indiana Jones 5 Footage Screened at D23

Lucasfilm debuted the first Indiana Jones 5 footage exclusively to those in attendance at D23. Ford appeared on stage after to confirm that the film was "fantastic," openly weeping while telling fans what they could expect from the upcoming film. "Indiana Jones movies are about mystery and adventure, but they're also about heart," he said. "...We have a really human story to tell, as well as a movie that will kick your ass." While Indiana Jones 5 plot details remain scarce, the film is reportedly set in the 1960s and revolves around the Space Race between the United States and the Soviet Union.
