Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey director Rhys Frake-Waterfield is planning for another children's tale-inspired horror movie based on Peter Pan.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Frake-Waterfield is not only developing a sequel to Blood and Honey but is working on a horror film titled Peter Pan: Neverland Nightmare. Details regarding the new film are unknown, though it will likely be based on the character created by novelist J.M. Barrie and popularized by the 1953 Disney animated film, Peter Pan.

Peter Pan first appeared in Barrie's The Little White Bird published in 1902 and, like Winnie-the-Pooh, has since entered the public domain. It's unclear how or from what adaptation of Peter Pan Frake-Waterfield will draw from for his own take on the character. Blood and Honey marked Frake-Waterfield's directorial debut. The film went into development in May 2022 once Winnie-the-Pooh went into the public domain on Jan. 1, 2022, meaning that the Walt Disney Company no longer owns exclusive rights to the character. Other properties that went into the public domain on that date included Felix Saten's Bambi, a Life in the Woods.

Winnie-the-Pooh Gets the Slasher Treatment

The slasher film reimagines the characters created by A.A. Milne and E.H. Shepards in 1926. It follows Christopher Robin as his childhood companions, Winnie-the-Pooh and Piglet, seek revenge on him for abandoning them. A bloody trailer was released for Blood and Honey in August, which revealed that after Christopher Robin had left his friends in the 100 Acre Wood, the animal characters inevitably "turned wild" and slaughtered not only each other but other innocent people as well.

Filming for Blood and Honey took place over ten days in Ashdown Forest, which is located in East Sussex, England. The film was produced in collaboration with Jagged Edge Productions and ITN Studios, who will also distribute the film. The low-budget slasher went viral after it was initially released on July 22. However, Blood and Honey will now receive theatrical releases in the U.S., U.K., Canada and Mexico in a one-day screening event hosted by Fathom Events, Altitude Film Distribution, Cineplex Entertainment, and Cinemex on Feb. 15, 2023, across hundreds of theaters.

Written and directed by Frake-Waterfield, Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey stars Amber Doig-Thorne, Maria Taylor, Danielle Ronald, Natasha Tosini, May Kelly, Paula Coiz, Natasha Rose Mills, Nikolai Leon as Christopher Robin, Craig David Dowsett as Piglet and Chris Cordell as Winnie-the-Pooh.
