BREAKING NEWS! Er... wait... no. We all knew this was coming. But it's official now anyway. We've heard here and there that Orlando Bloom would be reprising his Lord of the Rings role of Legolas the elf for Peter Jackson's upcoming two-part adaptation of The Hobbit, but there's never been any confirmation.
Now there is.
Jackson took to Facebook earlier today with a status update making the news official. As he wrote: "Ten years ago, Orlando Bloom created an iconic character with his portrayal of Legolas. I'm excited to announce today that we'll be revisiting Middle Earth with him once more. I’m thrilled to be working with Orlando again. Funny thing is, I look older — and he doesn’t! I guess that's why he makes such a wonderful elf."
Legolas isn't actually in the original book, but we already know that Jackson is taking a few liberties with the story, not just to better link The Hobbit with the Rings trilogy but also to tell more of the story that J.R.R. Tolkien alludes to in his original work. Can't wait to see it all come together.
