The Hobbit is shooting as you read this. Pretty cool, right? Even cooler is the launch of the video blog series that will chronicle the making of Peter Jackson's two movies, and of course eventually be gathered into a collection for the inevitable packed-to-the-gills home video release of the movie. The video is posted on Jackson's Facebook fan page, but you can check it out right here.
It's probably too much to call this first blog "revealing," but it does offer a generous glimpse of what is to come, from peeks at the Bag End, Rivendell and Misty Mountain caves sets to wardrobes and weapons to various stars, including Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen and Andy Serkis, gathering in the final days of pre-production and on to the first day of shooting.
The really cool stuff, like Serkis in his digitally created Gollum guise, of course won't be added until much later, during the post-production process. This is a good way to whet your appetite, though, a solid 10 minutes of Jackson walking us through various behind-the-scenes locations on The Hobbit set. There's a nice little coda at the end, too, with Freeman giving us a tease of his Bilbo Baggins in a voiceover.
