The mystery of Peter Capaldi's role in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad has deepened as the actor recently shaved his head for the part.
Capaldi sported his new haircut at Fan Expo Canada 2019, which prompted a fan to ask him about the hair and his upcoming role in The Suicide Squad.
"At the moment I can’t tell you, not because I don’t want to tell you, but because I’m not allowed to tell you — but I’m going to be completely bald," Capaldi responded. The actor went on to mention that he had to have prosthetics applied to his head.
While the actor had a bit of hair left when appearing at Fan Expo Canada 2019, he did say the rest of it would be cut soon. "So, they had to take my hair back as much [as possible] and I said, 'Could you leave a little bit? Because I’m going to Toronto.' So, they left a little bit and we did some head casts, and stuff. And then I came here, so that’s why. But when I go home, it’s going to go again. All the way."
Many rumors have swirled about who Capaldi might be playing in The Suicide Squad, with some speculating he will play the villain Psimon. However, nothing has been confirmed about his role.
Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad is set to hit theaters Aug. 6, 2021. Several cast members from 2016's Suicide Squad are expected to reprise their roles, including Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg and Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang. Also joining the cast are Idris Elba, David Dasmalchian and Daniela Melchior.
