New cast members have been added to Paramount Plus's Pet Sematary prequel film, based on the 2019 film adaptation of the Stephen King novel.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will star Jack Mulhern (Mare of Easttown), Forrest Goodluck (The Republic of Sarah), Natalie Alyn Lind (The Gifted) and newcomer Isabella Star Leblanc. They join Jackson White (Mrs. Fletcher) as the younger version of Jud Crandall, who was played by John Lithgow in the 2019 film. The casting announcement didn't include what characters the actors would be playing in the prequel.

A prequel to Pet Sematary was first discussed around the time of the film's release. Screenwriter Jeff Buhler explained to Movieweb, "a lot of the ideas that we've been batting around currently, recently, have all been about, more about digging into the mythology of the town, these rituals that children present, the mythology of the Micmac, the Wendigo, the cemetery, the origins, Jud's life. So it looks like, I don't want to promise anything, because we don't know, we're not even down the road on an idea yet." The prequel was greenlit in February 2021, with Lindsey Beer announced as the film's director in May of that year.

Based on the 1983 novel of the same name, Pet Sematary follows the story of a family who discover that the graveyard behind their new home has a dark, mysterious power about it. Stephen King has said the novel is the work of his that personally scares him the most. The 2019 film was met with mixed reviews, but was still a box office success. It is one of many adaptations of King's work that have come out in recent years.

The Pet Sematary prequel is written by Jeff Buhler, directed by Lindsey Beer and produced by Lorenzo D. Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian. It stars Jackson White, Jack Mulhern, Forrest Goodluck, Natalie Alyn Lind and Isabella Star Leblanc. The movie will premier on Paramount Plus, but has yet to receive a release date.
