There has historically been a lack of JRPGs on the Xbox. While it's had a few cult-classic JRPGs, Microsoft has never managed to achieve the multitude of titles that tend to release on Sony and Nintendo's consoles. Despite the lack of JRPGs in the past, Microsoft has really made a push to bring more to Xbox in recent years. Most of the cult-classic JRPGs that were released on its previous consoles, like Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey, are now available on Xbox One and Series X|S. Game Pass has also allowed for more JRPGs to come to Xbox. Also, thanks to Game Pass, games like Final Fantasy X, Octopath Traveler, and Yakuza: Like a Dragon are finally available to Xbox fans.

Game Pass is certainly making it easier for more Xbox players to experience JRPGs, and it demonstrates Microsoft's commitment to bringing more games of the genre to players. Nothing cements the studio's commitment to this more than Game Pass' newest addition, Persona 5 Royal. With millions of fans around the world, the Persona series is one of the most famous and longest-running JRPGs. Historically, the main series has mostly appeared on Sony consoles. However, the game has now made its way to Xbox consoles, and it shows the immense potential the genre has on Xbox.

Joker Faces A Monster In Persona 5

Persona 5 Royal is the best version of the JRPG, and it runs beautifully on Xbox, which shouldn't be surprising. For the most part, games tend to run fairly well when ported to other consoles. There are of course a few exceptions to that rule, but thankfully, Persona 5 isn't one. The game looks, runs, and plays great on Xbox Series X|S consoles, and as most who have played it know, it's tremendous fun. The game combines a typical JRPG with a life-simulation game, and it even throws in some monster-catching and time-management elements while also telling a fantastic story. The result is a JRPG experience that's unlike any other RPG available on the Xbox.

The sheer beauty of Persona 5 Royal's port shows that there is a ton of potential for even more JRPGs on the Xbox. Persona is one of the biggest JRPG series available, but it's far from the only one. There are still several Final Fantasy games missing from the Xbox as well as other great games like Chrono Trigger. Releasing future JRPGs on Xbox will only help the genre expand its fan base. The more players who can play a game, the more successful the game can become. While developing games for different systems can be challenging, the Xbox and PlayStation are both similar enough in power that releasing JRPGs on both platforms shouldn't be an insurmountable task.

Microsoft has been a titan of first and third-person shooters since the original Xbox, and it has a knack for cultivating some of the greatest racing, adventure, and multiplayer games available. However, the studio struggled to branch out from those basic genres over the last console generation, and JRPGs have never been widely available on Microsoft consoles. Fortunately, Microsoft is finally starting to change that, and Xbox has acquired one of the best JRPG series with Persona. The studio doesn't appear to be slowing down either. Not only will Persona 5 Royal be available on Xbox and Game Pass, but Persona 4 Golden and Persona 3 Portable will also be available in the coming months.

It's wonderful to see Microsoft make a major effort to bring a fan-favorite genre to Xbox. Persona will make an excellent addition to the Xbox JRPG lineup, and Xbox players who have never played a Persona game before are in for an absolute treat. There could not be a better version of these games to come to Xbox, and it may just be the series to kickstart a JRPG renaissance on Microsoft's consoles.
