An enhanced version of Atlus' critically acclaimed JRPG Persona 5Persona 5 Royal features new characters and gameplay tweaks that change the overall experience. Both games tell the story of a high school student who transfers to a new school after being framed for a crime he did not commit. After discovering an alternate reality called the Metaverse, where large palaces based on the distorted desires of corrupted adults are formed, The Protagonist awakens to the power of summoning supernatural creatures with special powers called Personas. Assuming a new identity as Joker, he teams up with his high school friends to fight Tokyo's corrupt underground by using the Metaverse to change people's hearts in the real world.

The original Persona 5 is a massive game, and Royal adds a substantial amount of content. If you've never played either game, you're going to want to clear your calendar for a little while, as beating Persona 5 Royal, let alone completing it, is no quick task.

How Long Does It Take To Beat Persona 5 Royal?

The story of Persona 5 Royal takes place over the course of one year. Gameplay is divided into two sections: the real world and the Metaverse. In the real world, Joker spends his days going to school, hanging out with his friends, working a part-time job and generally just doing things any regular teenager does. In the Metaverse, Joker and his friends invade the palaces of corrupt adults, battle Personas disguised as Shadows and locate special treasures that Joker can steal to change a person's heart.

All of this can be very time-consuming, especially when you combine both gameplay and cutscenes (and there are A LOT of cutscenes). According to HowLongToBeat.com, it took players around 103 hours to finish the story of Persona 5 Royal. This is slightly longer than the original Persona 5, which took around 97 hours to finish.

How Long Does It Take To Complete Persona 5 Royal?

There are many different gameplay elements in Persona 5 Royal, and completing them all can be a real task. Using the game's PSN trophy list as a guide for completion, acquiring the Platinum trophy involves more than just finishing the story. These include maxing out all of Joker's social stats, fully exploring and altering Mementos, visiting almost every optional area in Tokyo, defeating the Reaper and completing the specific in-game requirements to unlock Royal's bonus content.

This is on top of other game elements that can be maxed out that don't have trophies tied to them, such as maxing out all 23 Confidants or capturing every Persona in the game to complete the compendium (though the latter would require purchasing some additional DLC). HowLongToBeat averages that completion takes around 144 hours, though it might be more depending on what your level of "completion" really is.
