An animated classic, SpongeBob SquarePants began in 1999. The show has had thirteen seasons so far and proves to be as popular as ever as it has been renewed for another season and is still drawing in new fans. SpongeBob's message of kindness, positivity, determination, and how good will always prevail against evil has stood the test of time.

SpongeBob is a fun-loving character who always sees the bright side of life. The perks of being him are abundant because he only sees the positives in every situation. SpongeBob faces the stress, turmoil, and struggle that come with everyday life, and yet he carries on with a big smile on his face and hope in his heart.

10 SpongeBob Loves His Job

Spongebob - The Krusty Krab

SpongeBob works as a fry cook at the Krusty Krab and absolutely loves his job there. It is rare to find someone who not only loves their job, but loves it so much they would work for free, and SpongeBob is one of those people (or sponges as it were). He endures so much to keep working for Mr Krabs.

SpongeBob doesn't have a car, but that doesn't stop him from getting to work. SpongeBob speed walks there, smiling and chanting "I'm ready, I'm ready," and even after doing this day after day, he doesn't relent. No one loves to flip patties as much as SpongeBob does.

9 SpongeBob Loves His Neighbors

spongebob patrick and squidward

SpongeBob lives in a row of three houses: Patrick's rock, Squidward's Moai, and SpongeBob's pineapple. They have lived in this row of houses for the duration of the show, and much of the humor centers around the grumpy Squidward being trapped between the every excitable Patrick and SpongeBob.

For SpongeBob, this is a real perk as he considers Patrick and Squidward to be his two best friends in the world. Some people would love to live next door to their so-called best friends, although Squidward clearly doesn't feel that way.

8 SpongeBob's Pet Snail Gary Is Always Loyal

SpongeBob's pet Gary the Snail

Gary is SpongeBob's pet snail and has been his companion for a long time. Gary helps SpongeBob, sharing his advice through his meows. Many episodes of the show center around how much SpongeBob and Gary love one another. Even as a snail, Gary has the bigger backbone and sometimes defends SpongeBob.

SpongeBob thinks Gary is incredibly cute and fights to keep Gary in his life. The relationship isn't perfect, and sometimes becomes rocky, but they always return to one another. Their unrelenting friendship is a real perk in SpongeBob's life.

7 SpongeBob Has A Variety Of Talents

SpongeBob SquarePants making Krabby Patties

SpongeBob is skilled at many things. He is a very talented fry cook and is irreplaceable in his job. His ability to make Krabby Patties at an astonishing speed is defiantly a perk not only for SpongeBob, but for Krusty Krab owner Eugene H. Krabs.

SpongeBob is also a gifted musician and plays the guitar, the ukulele, the slide whistle, and more. Squidward is considered a musician, at least he considers himself one, but it is SpongeBob who proves his own skills time and time again. He is a talented singer, an excellent bubble blower, and is skilled at catching jellyfish.

6 His Friend Sandy Is Always Teaching Him New Things

Sandy the Squirrel from SpongeBob SquarePants.

Sandy is a close friend of SpongeBob's, arguably his second-best friend after Patrick. She is a very clever squirrel who works in science and lives underwater in order to conduct research.

Sandy is a terrific addition to SpongeBob's life, as she teaches him karate, involves him in science and, in Season 9, they break a record number of world records together. Sandy enriches SpongeBob's life and brings a level of intelligence that SpongeBob doesn't find anywhere else. She grounds SpongeBob in reality when he usually lives in a world of imagination.

5 SpongeBob Meets His Heroes

Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy in Spongebob Squarepants

SpongeBob is a big fan of TV superheroes Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy. The crime-fighting duo has retired, but that doesn't stop SpongeBob and Patrick from occasionally coaxing them out of the Shady Shoals Rest Home and getting them back into fighting crime. SpongeBob also meets his hero, Kenny the Cat, in Season 9.

SpongeBob is lucky to meet his heroes, and a perk of living in Bikini Bottom means that they are often nearby. Sometimes, when there is a supervillain, best friends SpongeBob and Patrick get to fight alongside Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy, which is a dream come true.

4 He's A Sociable Sponge

Spongebob Squarepants celebrating

SpongeBob can speak to anybody about anything. He is a social butterfly who considers himself friends with everybody. Even when people are mean to him, like Squidward often is, SpongeBob easily brushes it off and still considers Squidward a very good friend of his. It is almost delusional, but with a wholesome optimism that everyone can appreciate. Everyone knows who SpongeBob is, for better or worse, and they hold him in high esteem as the friendly fry cook at the most popular restaurant in Bikini Bottom.

3 He's From A Small Town

SpongeBob's hometown, Bikini Bottom

SpongeBob SquarePants is set primarily in Bikini Bottom, where the main characters live and work. In "The Good Krabby Name," the population is estimated at 500. The perks of living in a small city are that you know almost everybody and everything is just a short distance away.

Despite his many attempts, SpongeBob can't drive, so it is good that his city is small enough to venture around without a vehicle. SpongeBob uses public transport when he needs to or walks wherever he needs to go.

2 He Has A Huge Heart

SpongeBob is known for being an incredibly wholesome and sweet individual. He spreads joy whenever and wherever he can, and even in the face of adversity, SpongeBob always works to treat everyone with kindness.

It is a huge perk and works very much in SpongeBob's favor that he is a kind-hearted person. His positive attitude gets him everything he wants in life; the job, the friendships, the opportunities. SpongeBob is often underestimated due to his optimism and childlike wonder, but he always comes out on top.

1 He Is Unapologetically Himself

TV SpongeBob SquarePants Superhero

There are brief times when SpongeBob attempts to conform to others' expectations, like in "Not Normal," when he begins to act "normal" at Squidward's request. Ultimately though, SpongeBob realizes that he should always be his true self.

SpongeBob stays soft and doesn't let the world harden him. For everything he has endured, SpongeBob could have become a much different person, but he remains his goofy self anyway. Becoming a man in The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie is not what saves him, being a kid and being himself leads to his win in the end.
