Author Rick Riordan revealed that his upcoming Disney+ Percy Jackson TV series is off to a good start script-wise, but has yet to reach the production stage just yet.

"We have a couple of important meetings this coming week with the top brass at the studio for the Percy Jackson TV show, so keep your fingers crossed." Riordan wrote in his website's news section. "Everyone who has read the pilot script loves it, but there will be a few additional tweaks we need to make before we send it off to its next stop: the top execs at Disney+. That's normal. In scriptwriting, as in every other kind of writing, you can expect to do many, many drafts!"

Riordan also thanked everybody who provided feedback on his script, calling their advice "super positive and helpful." On whether the Disney+ series will be well-received by longtime fans, he continued, "Everyone is committed to making this the best show we possibly can. I remain excited and guardedly optimistic that we are on the verge of getting a really first-rate project off the ground. As always, though, good things require time and patience! Stay tuned!"

Two Percy Jackson movies were produced by 20th Century Fox based on the franchise's first two books: Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief in 2010 and Percy Jackson: The Sea of Monsters in 2013. Starring Logan Lerman as Percy, both films were heavily criticized by book fans as poor adaptations, as well as Riordan who, despite never watching the movies, found their scripts disappointing. Upon confirming the Disney+ show's development last May, the author revealed that he would have more creative control over its story and production, with Season 1 being an adaptation of The Lightning Thief.

Riordan released his first Percy Jackson and the Olympians book, The Lightning Thief, in 2005, chronicling the adventures of the titular Percy Jackson, a boy who learns that he's the son of Poseidon and gets taken to the demigod training ground Camp Half-Blood. The book would receive four sequels, all of which garnered praise for their writing, characters and blend of classic mythology and modern pop culture. After completing Percy Jackson, Riordan wrote four more book series -- The Kane ChroniclesThe Heroes of Olympus, Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard and The Trials of Apollo -- within his fantasy world about gods and descendants of Roman, Norse and Egyptian mythology.

No release date has been announced for the Percy Jackson Disney+ TV series.
