Author Rick Riordan is very pleased with the development of the upcoming Percy Jackson TV show.

"Our fourth full week of filming is well underway in Vancouver, BC!" the Percy Jackson creator announced in a post uploaded to his official website. He then offered praise for both Percy Jackson and the Olympians' young cast and visual aesthetics, writing, "We are receiving 'dailies' of the scenes recorded each day, and they look . . . dare I say, divine." The author goes on to praise the cast's performance, noting how impressed he is with the actor's interpretations of the script.

As for the VFX, Riordan revealed that Percy Jackson and the Olympians will become the first TV show to film on Industrial Light and Magic's Vancouver-based Volume stage. A high-resolution soundstage that blends physical sets and full LED walls to generate realistic visuals, the Volume was first used to bring Jon Favreau's The Mandalorian to life, followed by current Star Wars shows like Obi-Wan Kenobi and The Book of Boba Fett. Teasing the series' seamless blend of realism and fantasy, Riordan stated that "our new Volume stage is an even more cutting-edge version of that wraparound virtual environment, making it one of the most advanced production stages in the world." The creator further teased that the show's VFX will be so realistic that audiences will struggle to determine the difference between scenes shot on location and through the unique technology.

Percy Jackon Returns

Percy Jackson and the Olympians' first season will adapt Riordan's original novel The Lightning Thief, serving as the book's second major adaptation after Chris Columbus' poorly-received 2010 film. In April 2022, it was announced that Disney had cast The Adam Project's Walker Scobell as the titular Percy Jackson, a role previously played by Logan Lerman. A month later, Riordan confirmed that Aryan Simhadri and Leah Sava Jeffries would play Percy's friends Grover Underwood and Annabeth Chase, a satyr "protector" and demigod daughter of Athena, respectively. Other major castings for the Disney+ series include Jason Mantzoukas as Dionysius, the Greek God of wine and Camp Half-Blood's reluctant director, and Dior Goodjohn and Charlie Bushnell as reocurring camp residents Clarisse La Rue and Luke Castellan.

First published in 2005, The Lightning Thief's literary success spawned four more novels continuing Percy's battle against the malevolent forces of the Titan Kronos. Riordan went on to publish an additional four book series -- The Kane Chronicles, The Heroes of Olympus, Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, and The Trials of Apollo -- which either followed Percy alongside other characters or focused on different individuals and mythological pantheons within the same universe.

An official release date for Percy Jackson and the Olympians has yet to be announced.
