After spending years in family movies and television commercials, Jennifer Garner returns to action in the first trailer for the revenge thriller Peppermint.

Garner stars as Riley North, a mother who woke up from a coma and learns that her husband and daughter were killed in an attack. Frustrated with the justice system for protecting the killers, who are connected to a powerful cartel, Riley strikes out on her own to get the justice her family deserves: She spends years training to become a ruthless and efficient killer. And of course, she easily evades the Los Angeles Police Department and FBI as she goes on her one-woman crusade. Dealers, dirty cops, corrupt judges -- she's coming for all of them, just in time for the anniversary of her family's murder.

If that sounds at all similar to the remake of Death Wish starring Bruce Willis earlier this year, that's because it is. Although it has that similar concept, it also has some Taken in its DNA thanks to the director, Pierre Morel, who helmed the first film in the successful Liam Neeson franchise.

No stranger to action vehicles, Garner rose to fame as CIA agent Sydney Bristow on the ABC spy thriller Alias, and starred as Elektra in 2003's Daredevil and her own 2005 spinoff.

Arriving in theaters Sept. 7, Peppermint also stars John Ortiz, John Gallagher Jr. and Juan Pablo Raba.
