Lucius Fox has arrived in the first teaser for Pennyworth Season 2.
In a blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameo, Fox appears at the trailer's 0:31-minute mark. This is the first look at the show's version of the character, who will be played by His Dark Materials alum Simon Manyonda.
In the official character description, Lucius is introduced as "a young American scientist, precise to the point of pedantry, deliberately calm, honest, and direct to a fault; he suffers no fools gladly. His friends would say he's a man of conscience; his enemies would say he's judgmental and dogmatic. An integral part of the DC universe, this marks his introduction to the Wayne family."
Manyonda's Lucius isn't the only new character arriving in Season 2. Gretel and Hansel star Jessica de Gouw has joined the cast as Melanie Troy, "a military orphan, who became a woman of the world far too young. She married a dominating older man, but with her wry intelligence and a sardonic sense of humor, she's no submissive and gives as good as she gets. Introduced to Alfie as the wife of his former SAS Captain, the two kindred spirits have an immediate connection."
Additionally, Altered Carbon's James Purefoy, Harlots alum Edward Hogg, Curfew star Jessye Romeo, The Victim's Ramon Tikaram and Lost Magic star Harriet Slater will appear in series regular roles, though their characters have not been announced at this time.
The 40-second trailer includes a handful of other surprises, like Thomas Wayne's engagement to another woman and the mention of Arkham Asylum, even as Alfred pledges to move to America following the death of his father. A poster for the upcoming season, boasting the tagline "Bring Down the House," sets Alfred, Thomas and Martha Kane against a tattered British flag and the House of Parliment, which has gone up in flames.
Developed by former Gotham collaborators Bruno Heller and Danny Cannon, Pennyworth stars Jack Bannon as Alfred Pennyworth, Ben Aldridge as Thomas Wayne, Jason Flemyng as Lord Harwood, Paloma Faith as Bet Sykes, Ryan Fletcher as Dave Boy, Hainsley Lloyd Bennett as Bazza, Jessica Ellerby as the Queen and Simon Manyonda as Lucius Fox. Season 2 premieres Dec. 13 on EPIX.
