Expect to hear some big news in Pennyworth Season 2.

According to show co-creator Bruno Heller, Batman's mother Martha Kane will be pregnant during the DC TV show's sophomore season. He made the announcement during Pennyworth's DC FanDome panel alongside Emma Paetz and Ben Aldridge, who play Martha and Thomas Wayne, respectively.

At the time of writing, it is unclear who will be the father of Martha's unborn child. Although Aldridge's presence during the time of the announcement suggests Thomas is indeed the father, it's worth noting that Martha and Alfred had a romantic rendezvous during Season 1 as well.

Further, Heller did not confirm that Martha's child will be Bruce Wayne, who famously goes on to take up the Batman mantle. In some versions of Batman's story, Bruce has a brother; indeed, Thomas Wayne Jr. was introduced as recently as 2011. Additionally, it's possible she could lose the pregnancy at some point in Season 2. Either way, Season 2 will have many questions to answer surrounding Martha's pregnancy.

Pennyworth follows the exploits of a young Alfred Pennyworth, played by Jack Bannon, years before he become a butler and aid to Batman. The series' first season premiered last year and concluded on Sep. 29. Like Season 1, Season 2 will be ten episodes long. Production began back in January at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the UK, but shut down in March due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Developed by former Gotham collaborators Bruno Heller and Danny Cannon, Pennyworth stars Jack Bannon as Alfred Pennyworth, Ben Aldridge as Thomas Wayne, Jason Flemyng as Lord Harwood, Paloma Faith as Bet Sykes, Ryan Fletcher as Dave Boy, Hainsley Lloyd Bennett as Bazza and Jessica Ellerby as the Queen. Season 1 is available to stream now on EPIX.
