The Batman prequel series Pennyworth has cast Jason Flemyng in a major villain role.
Flemyng (Jamestown) will play Lord Harwood, a seemingly original character. Described as a cultured and urbane member of the British upper crust, his charm betrays his actual sadistic nature. He joins the previously cast Paloma Faith (The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus) as Bet Sykes, a cruel villain who will reportedly work alongside Harwood in some capacity.
As reported by Deadline, the 10 episode season will air on Epix and is currently in production. The series will center around a young Alfred Pennyworth just as he’s left the SAS and found himself in the employ of a young and confident tycoon from the United States, Thomas Wayne. Jack Bannon (The Imitation Game) has already been cast as Alfred and Ben Aldridge (Our Girl) has been chosen to play Thomas Wayne.
Created by executive producers Bruno Heller and Danny Cannon (Gotham), the series is poised to explore a side of the DC Universe that isn’t usually examined. While Harwood doesn’t seem to have any connection to other characters in the DC Universe, the casting of Flemyng suggests that there’s something important and hidden to the character.
Pennyworth is scheduled to air on Epix in 2019.
