DC fans have been given their first look at Colin Farrell's return as The Batman Universe's Oswald "Oz" Cobblepot in set photos for the upcoming spinoff series, The Penguin. The set photos were released by The Daily Mail, showing the actor looking completely unrecognizable in full make-up and costume as the iconic Batman supervillain. The Penguin is currently filming in New York under the mafia-inspired working title "Boss." Farrell first appeared as Oswald Cobblepot in Matt Reeves' 2022 superhero film, The Batman, with the upcoming HBO Max limited series confirmed to take place one week after the events of that film.RELATED: The Batman's Penguin Spinoff Will Be Cobblepot's 'Scarface' Story

The Penguin was first announced in September 2021 by HBO Max, with Farrell confirmed to be reprising his role that December. The series will be executive produced by Reeves, Farrell, Dylan Clark, Lauren LeFranc and Craig Zobel. LeFranc also wrote and serves as showrunner on the series while Craig Zobel will direct the first two episodes. While plot details remain under wraps, The Penguin will chart Oswald Cobblepot's rise to power in Gotham's criminal underworld. This means that the eight-episode limited series will include appearances from members of Gotham's two foremost crime families -- the Falcones and the Maronis -- with How I Met Your Mother alumna Cristin Milioti playing Sofia Falcone and prolific actor Clancy Brown portraying Salvatore Maroni.

Will Batman Appear in The Penguin?

While The Penguin will focus on Farrell's titular character, Robert Pattinson has been rumored to appear as Bruce Wayne/Batman in the upcoming series. The rumor states that Pattinson would only be appearing as the reclusive billionaire in one or two episodes and that it is currently unknown if he would suit up as the Caped Crusader. Warner Bros. and DC Studios have not officially commented on the rumor at this time, so it should be taken with a grain of salt for now. However, Pattinson is confirmed to return as the Dark Knight in The Batman – Part II, which will begin principal photography in November 2023 in England.

In addition to Farrell, Milioti, Brown and possibly Pattinson, The Penguin will star Rhenzy Feliz (Marvel's Runaways), Michael Kelly (House of Cards), Shohreh Aghdashloo (Star Trek Beyond) and Deirdre O'Connell (Daredevil). While character details have not been disclosed regarding whom each of the four actors will be playing, reports have indicated that Feliz will play a teenager who forms a friendship with Cobblepot, leading to the character becoming the criminal's personal driver.

The Penguin does not yet have a premiere date but will stream exclusively on HBO Max.
