The Batman star Robert Pattinson is reportedly making an appearance on HBO Max's upcoming The Penguin series.

Ahead of The Penguin's imminent production start this February, casting speculations about the spin-off series continue to make rounds online. One of these rumors includes a guest-star appearance from Pattinson. During The Hot Mic podcast, industry scooper Jeff Sneider shared that Pattinson is rumored to be reprising his role as Bruce Wayne in potentially one or two episodes of The Batman spin-off starring opposite Colin Farrell. However, it remains unclear if the series would also feature Pattinson suiting up as The Dark Knight. This rumor has not been officially confirmed.

The Penguin is set to take place after the events of the 2022 film, which will feature Farrell's Oswald Cobblepot taking advantage of his boss Carmine Falcone’s death. The eight-part drama hails from The Batman director Matt Reeves, who is executive producing with showrunner Lauren LeFrance. The story chronicles Cobblepot’s rise to power in the criminal underworld, as he tries to become Gotham's next big crime boss.

The Penguin Sets Up The Batman Sequel

In a previous interview, Reeves confirmed that The Penguin will officially set up the story that will lead into the upcoming sequel to The Batman. "There's actually a whole little fabric of things we're wanting to do, the way we're doing with [the] Penguin and how that comes back into how that will lead into the sequel, and what that sequel is going to be," he said. According to DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran, the sequel is being developed as part of the DC Universe’s Elseworlds, where standalone projects won’t have a connection to the greater DCU.

Apart from Cobblepot’s origins as a crime lord, The Penguin will reportedly explore the DC villain’s tragic past and his relationship with his controlling mother Francis Cobblepot, who’s suffering from a type of progressive dementia called Dementia with Lewy Bodies (DLB). At the time of writing, Farrell is the only cast member from the film who has been confirmed to return for the series. The Oscar-nominated actor will be joined by DC newcomers; Rhenzy Feliz as a teenager who befriends Cobblepot; and Cristin Milioti as Sofia Falcone, the daughter of Carmine Falcone, who was portrayed by John Turturro in the movie.

The Batman - Part II will once again be directed by Reeves from a screenplay written by Mattson Tomlin. Further details about its plot and characters are still under wraps, with Pattinson currently the only key cast member announced for the highly-anticipated project. In a previous interview, Barry Keoghan expressed his interest in coming back as Joker for the sequel, after surprising fans with his unexpected cameo in the first film. "Obviously I'd love another crack," he said. "I've got a ton of back work done on him. If an opportunity does arise but, you know, they make the call, and I've got to respect that."

The Batman - Part II will arrive in theaters on Oct. 3, 2025, while the HBO Max release for The Penguin has not yet been announced.
