WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Wonder Woman 1984, now in theaters and on HBO Max, and We Can Be Heroes, now streaming on Netflix.

Pedro Pascal used to to be known primarily for his appearance in Game of Thrones Season 4 as Oberyn Martell; however, now he will likely be known as 2020's dad of the year thanks to his most recent credits. From The Mandalorian, to Wonder Woman 1984, to We Can Be Heroes, Pascal has shown fans what makes a great dad.

The Mandalorian

In The Mandalorian, Pascal plays Din Djarin, a bounty hunter who becomes a father figure to Grogu, a force sensitive creature on the run from Moff Gideon. Originally Din was hired to bring in Grogu as a bounty, but he became attached to the Child and rescued him.

He essentially accepted Grogu as his son and made it his mission to return him to his people, which culminated in Season 2's bittersweet ending, where Grogu returns to the world of the Jedi with Luke Skywalker. Though Din accomplished his goal, Din and Grogu became a family, so seeing them separate after all they had been through was sad, and Pascal's acting with the puppet makes the scene all the more heart-wrenching.

Not only is Din practically Grogu's father, fans have attached themselves to this paternal relationship, so much so, that there is some concern as to where the series will go now that Grogu has been sent off with Luke. While nothing is confirmed about the content of Season 3, it's likely those paternal instincts will not go unacknowledged moving forward.

Being Grogu's father has changed the trajectory of Din's life. It brought him the Beskar that made his iconic armor, and it led him to owning the famous Dark Saber and connecting with many new allies, like Boba Fett and Ahsoka Tano. Being a father is now fundamental to the character, even if he is no longer travelling with his son.

 Wonder Woman 1984

Meanwhile in 1984, Pascal plays conman Maxwell Lord. While Lord is the villain, he has plenty of sympathetic moments, which are anchored in the relationship with his son, Alistair, who just wants to spend time with his dad. For most of the film, Max neglects his son in a misguided attempt to impress him; however, in the end, Wonder Woman convinces Lord to relinquish the power of the Dreamstone and find his son. After giving up the power, Lord assures Alistair that his love for him will always be unconditional.

While Lord does a host of unethical and evil things, his motivations are grounded by his relationship with his son. Lord's own father was abusive, and he was not left with any advantages in life. Therefore, he wants to provide a better life for his son, but he believes money and influence are the only ways to do that. Thankfully, he realizes his son just wants his love and attention, which Lord will provide.

We Can Be Heroes

Finally, in We Can Be Heroes, Pascal plays Marcus Moreno. He is the leader of the Heroics superhero team and a single father to Missy. Since becoming a devoted, single father, he agreed to be leader of the Heroics from the safety of an office. Unfortunately, circumstances require him to step out into battle, and he, along with the other members of the team, are captured by aliens, so Missy and the other heroes' kids must band together and save their parents. While the story primarily follows the kids as they hone their skills, the relationship between Missy and Marcus is fundamental to the success of the mission.

It is clear that Marcus has instilled in his daughter the values crucial to being a leader. Also, their relationship is adorable, with Missy having a radio bracelet that connects her with her dad. Marcus clearly taught his daughter how to be a leader, as well as how to be the very best version of herself. His love for his daughter is already endearing, but his traits as a loyal hero and leader make him an even better role model and beloved character.
