Last night, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon put a dark twist on Charles M. Schulz's Peanuts characters for a Riverdale parody skit. Much like how Jason Blossom's death sparked the events of the actual show, the Peanuts parody kicks off with the death of Lucy's brother Linus. From there, the sketch goes all-in, taking jabs at Jughead's narration, Archie's love of music and Archie's affair with his teacher -- though good luck understanding her, since the scene capitalizes on the muffled adult voices from the Peanuts cartoon.

The Peanuts characters are some of the most beloved kids in media. Over the decades, fans have grown to love Charlie Brown, Lucy and the rest of the gang, in part because they've never aged or lost their childlike wonder. Of course, this Tonight Show skit promptly discards the Peanuts' youthful charm for dark, taboo-filled drama.

This isn't the first time Riverdale has been parodied. Earlier in the year, a dark Riverdale parody of the classic kids cartoon Arthur was released on Twitter thanks to student filmmaker Daniel Nkoola. For all the parodies, The CW show itself is doing quite well, with a Sabrina spinoff on the way.

Returning Wednesday, January 17 at 8 pm ET/PT on The CW, Riverdale stars KJ Apa, Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes, Cole Sprouse, Casey Cott, Ashleigh Murray, Mark Consuelos, Madeleine Petsch, Marisol Nichols, Madchen Amick, and Luke Perry.
