Peacock's Punky Brewster revival has been canceled after just one season.

"Punky Brewster was a beloved series that tackled meaningful storylines with so much heart," NBCUniversal Television and Streaming President of Scripted Lisa Katz said. "It was a bright light for so many viewers and we are forever grateful to Universal Studio Group, the producers, the cast and crew and especially to Soleil Moon Frye for reigniting the Punky Power within everyone."

The original Punky Brewster was created by David W. Duclon and ran on NBC from 1984-1986 across four seasons and 88 episodes. The show centered on Soleil Moon Frye's Penelope "Punky" Brewster, a fun-loving child who's taken in by an elderly widower after she's abandoned by her mother.

The sequel series was announced in 2019, with Frye slated to reprise her role. She was joined by former co-star Cheri Johnson, as well as newcomers Quinn Copeland, Noah Cottrell, Oliver De Los Santos, Lauren Lindsey Donzis and Freddie Prinze Jr. This time, the show revolved around Punky's life as a divorced mother of three children in the same Chicago apartment she grew up in with her foster father.

In contrast to Peacock's other major revival, Saved by the BellPunky Brewster was met with lukewarm reactions by critics. CBR's own review noted that "the new Punky Brewster is a lot closer to Fuller House than it is to the new Saved by the Bell, maintaining the old-fashioned sitcom style of its previous incarnation as it attempts to update characters and storylines for the present day."
