How the Grinch Stole Christmas! began as a children's story written and illustrated by Dr. Seuss. Published in 1957, the book centers on a grouchy recluse who despises Christmas until Cindy Lou Who of Whoville helps thaw his frigid heart. However, his heart doesn't famously grow three sizes until after he quite literally "steals" Christmas from Whoville by masquerading as Santa Claus.

In 1966, How the Grinch Stole Christmas! received an animated special on CBS from directors Chuck Jones and Ben Washam, with horror icon Boris Karloff serving as the narrator. Despite being released in an era that also saw such perennial favorites as Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and A Charlie Brown Christmas SpecialHow the Grinch Stole! Christmas! cemented itself as an instant holiday classic.

In 2000, The Grinch would receive its next notable adaptation, this time with a live-action film from Universal Pictures that was directed by Ron Howard and starred Jim Carrey as the eponymous shut-in. A CG-animated reimagining followed in 2018 from Illumination, with Benedict Cumberbatch voicing the Grinch.

"Everything on Peacock is heading in the right direction," NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell recently said while discussing Peacock's overall performance. "There's really nothing, from a trajectory perspective, that's any different than it was last quarter or the quarter before. All metrics are pointed up. Our usage continues to be great, our mix of users continues to be great. We added a few million more subs, more monthly active users." These comments came at the tail-end of Peacocktober, which saw the streaming service boast its array of Halloween content for the month of October.

"We've been a business for just over a year and we're already more than a third of what Hulu is now, which is a service that's more than a decade in the making," he added before noting that subscribers should expect to see "a ramp-up of originals on Peacock, which is very necessary to continue to grow."
