Peacemaker creator James Gunn revealed why only the first seven of the HBO Max series' eight episodes were shown to critics.

"Spoilers," Gunn told Collider when asked why the final episode of the season wasn't given a screener. "I wouldn't let them put out eight. They wanted to put out all eight. I said, 'No way. No chance in hell are we putting out all eight.' There's just too many things happen in episode eight that I just could not let it get out there. It would absolutely be spoiled. You know, I wouldn't even let them give it to one place or anything like that because it just wasn't... I didn't want it to be out there."

Gunn also revealed to Screen Rant that Episode 8 was the one he looked forward to fans watching. "There's no doubt but eight. Eight is the best, yes," he explained. "Eight is great. And I love six, I have a special place in my heart for six, but eight is the one that I really am excited for people to see. As you probably know, we've kept it. We haven't shown anybody. Nobody knows what's gonna happen in eight. But I know what's going to happen. The cast knows what's going to happen. Some of HBO Max knows what's gonna happen. We're all very excited to show people the last episode of Peacemaker. The last episode of this season."

As for the future of Peacemaker, Gunn said that he wanted to make multiple seasons, noting that "there's not a big plan in place," but that it was something he and the cast would "love to do." Gunn elaborated on these comments the following month, saying, "At the end of The Suicide Squad, [Idris Elba's] Bloodsport learns a lot. He's a better person than he was at the beginning. A lot of the characters are much better than they were at the beginning, and Peacemaker has a lot to learn."

Peacemaker isn't Gunn's only DC show, as he recently confirmed he's developing another DCEU-set TV series. While the nature of the project is unclear, it's been hinted that Jennifer Holland's Emilia Harcourt might not be done with the DCEU after Peacemaker.

New episodes of Peacemaker debut Thursdays on HBO Max.
