DC Studios co-head James Gunn revealed that the second season of his HBO Max series Peacemaker will come out after the DC Universe film Superman: Legacy.In response to a fellow Twitter user asking him in a thread if Peacemaker Season 2 was still happening, Gunn responded, "Yes after Superman." This ties into an earlier report where Gunn had said that the season was postponed while he worked on both Superman: Legacy and the Peacemaker spinoff, Waller. Interestingly, Gunn commented to another user in the thread that Legacy would come out after the animated series Creature Commandos when asked if he had any predictions on when the public would see all the projects in the DCU's first chapter, "Gods and Monsters."
Peacemaker Season 2 Could Crossover With Other DC Project
As of now, details about the plot of Peacemaker Season 2 are currently unknown. However, Gunn said in 2022 that characters from the show would cross over into other DC projects, remarking, "I am working very seriously on another DC project, where I'm very involved in the writing and the direction of it. There will be some blending of the characters from Peacemaker in the other shows I'm working on. And I'm involved with a couple of other [DC] things too."
On the topic of Superman: Legacy, Gunn discussed how the eponymous Man of Steel would be characterized in the movie, calling Superman "a big ol' galoot," adding that he's an idealistic Kansas farmboy whose greatest weakness is his refusal to kill anyone. "[Superman] doesn't want to hurt a living soul," the filmmaker concluded. "I like that sort of innate goodness about Superman; it's his defining characteristic. He's not [the] All-Star Superman [version of the character], but again, I'm a huge fan of All-Star Superman, and I'm very inspired by [that comic book series]."
Superman: Legacy Isn't An Origin Story
Similar to Peacemaker's second season, plot details about Superman: Legacy are still under wraps. While Legacy is a reboot with a new actor playing the Last Son of Krypton, Gunn's DC Studios partner Peter Safran revealed that the movie isn't an origin story. Instead, Legacy sees Superman attempt "balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing." A recent rumor also claims that Legacy will recast the Metropolis Marvel's archenemy Lex Luthor. However, Gunn hasn't confirmed if the character is even in Legacy.
