Director James Gunn and his Peacemaker stars offered a self-critique of their show's craziest, yet most captivating, creative decision: its deadpan opening credits dance to the tune of Wig Wam's "Do Ya Wanna Taste It."In a video interview with IMDb, lead actor John Cena declared that Jennifer Holland, who plays A.R.G.U.S. handler Emilia Harcourt, "stole the show" during the intro sequence. He then gave Steve Agee (i.e. John Economos) an "honorable mention" award and admitted his moves fell under "most needed improvement," though Holland disagreed.RELATED: DC Let James Gunn Go 'Hog Wild' in Peacemaker's HBO Max Series

On the negative side, top contenders for the worst dancers were Patrick, according to Gunn, and Agee in the eyes of other actors like Chukwudi Iwuji. Agee largely agreed with the criticism, explaining that he's "self-conscious and it took me down to the wire to learn those moves even though I had a lot of rehearsals."

The first three episodes of Peacemaker were released to HBO Max on Jan. 13, serving as a direct continuation of Christopher Smith/ Peacemaker's story from The Suicide Squad. Following its streaming release, HBO Max also dropped Peacemaker's entire opening credits to YouTube, which features the main and supporting cast dancing in sync together in a room full of neon lights. According to Agee, Cena was unavailable to film the sequence at one point so Resident Alien actor Alan Tudyk was used as a stand-in, even showing photos and gifs of Tudyk's performance as proof.

In Peacemaker, Smith, after being released from the hospital, is quickly picked up by Harcourt and Economos to work as a contract killer for Clemson Murn's (Iwuji) special ops team. It's soon revealed that Smith's mission, dubbed Project Butterfly, involves targeting and assassinating undercover metahumans across the world. The series also sees Peacemaker joined on mission by the DCEU's version of Vigilante (Stroma), a Peacemaker fanboy whose personality bears a strong resemblance to Marvel's Deadpool.

In addition to the metahuman conflict, Peacemaker's early episodes also set up a conflict between Smith and his estranged father Auggie, an overt bigot who also designed Peacemaker's enhanced helmets. According to Gunn, he merged two DC characters together -- Peacemaker's comic father and the established supervillain White Dragon -- to create Auggie, with the second episode's ending teasing dark details about the character's past.

New episodes of Peacemaker air Thursdays on HBO Max.
