Showrunner James Gunn is impressed by an eagle-eyed fan who spotted a Peacemaker Easter egg before the series has even released.Tagging Gunn on Twitter, the fan asked if a drawing seen in one of the show's locations is a depiction of the DC Comics supervillain Eclipso. Gunn responded to the inquiry, writing, "Whoa. Two weeks before the first episodes air and you guys are already finding Easter eggs." The fan noticed the hidden detail on December 22, while the series isn't set to release until January 2022.RELATED: Peacemaker Clip Reveals the Antihero's Foulmouthed Aquaman Thoughts

Eclipso's first comic book appearance was in The House of Secrets #61, having a range of supernatural powers from magic to flight, possession and beyond. He has fought with numerous heroes, such as Superman, Shazam and more, and is currently an antagonist of Wally West in writer Jeremy Adams' run on The Flash. The upcoming issue, The Flash #777, will feature a team-up between Wally, Doctor Fate and the Justice League Dark to stop Eclipso.

The villain was also recently adapted for live-action in Stargirl Season 2, portrayed by actor Nick E. Tarabay. Stargirl began as an original series for the streaming service DC Universe, before shifting over to The CW television network for its second season. However, other DC Universe originals, like Titans and Doom Patrol, moved from the service to HBO Max, which is where Peacemaker will be exclusively available.

The upcoming DC Extended Universe series picks up where Gunn's The Suicide Squad left off, with Peacemaker healing from his standoff with Bloodsport (Idris Elba) and the squad's handler, Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), having future plans for the killer. Actor and wrestler John Cena will be reprising his role as Peacemaker aka Christopher Smith for the series, alongside actors Jennifer Holland and Steve Agee, who will be reprising their Suicide Squad roles as Emilia Harcourt and John Economos, respectively. The characters will be joined by newcomers Leota Adebayo (Danielle Brooks), Vigilante (Freddie Stroma) and Clemson Murn (Chukwudi Iwuji), with all of them recently featured in patriotic posters for the series.

So far, trailers for the series have teased that Smith will be dealing with the fallout of The Suicide Squad, as well as coming to terms with the upbringing that turned him into a killer of men, women and children in the name of "peace." Gunn returns as the director and showrunner of the series and is hopeful that the story will receive a second season in the future. Peacemaker arrives Jan. 13, 2022 on HBO Max.
