After making his theatrical debut in The Suicide Squad, the character of Peacemaker will helm a spinoff series on HBO Max, with John Cena reprising his role as the title character and serving as executive producer. However, producer James Gunn debunked rumors about the show having an edited run on the other home of many DC television series, The CW.On Twitter, Gunn responded to an article from The Vulcan Reporter claiming the show will air on The CW, writing, "Lol. No. If we edited it for broadcast TV it would be forty seconds long." This also seemingly confirms that Peacemaker will have a more adult-oriented approach to it, as cutting anything too graphic for cable TV would truncate the runtime.RELATED: The Suicide Squad’s Peacemaker Spinoff Locks and Loads Four More Cast Members

This isn't the first time Gunn has shot down a rumor surrounding Peacemaker. Earlier this year, he disproved an article claiming the series would introduce a new Green Arrow by calling it nonsense.

Produced by Gunn, Cena and Peter Safran, with Chuck and The 100 producer Matt Miller recently joining the series as an executive producer, Peacemaker will explore the character's origin, though Gunn noted it may not be a prequel to The Suicide Squad. The series may also feature appearances from other Task Force X members, as teased by Gunn.

Written and produced by James Gunn, Peacemaker stars John Cena, Steve Agee, Danielle Brooks, Robert Patrick, Jennifer Holland, Chris Conrad, Chukwudi Iwuji, Lochlyn Munro, Annie Chang and Christopher Heyerdahl. The eight-episode series has yet to receive an HBO Max premiere date.
