Peacemaker creator James Gunn said that at least one character from the HBO Max series will appear in a future DC Extended Universe film.
"It is part of the DCU, I mean they can use these characters... I mean one of these characters, which people have kind of figured out, one of these characters is used in a future big DC movie that's from here," Gunn said on The Hollywood Reporter's podcast, TV's Top 5, as reported by The Direct. "So we are connected to all of this... who knows what role these characters are going to play in the future? I mean no one knew who the Guardians of the Galaxy were, and then all of a sudden they're massive players in [Avengers:] Infinity War and [Avengers:] Endgame. So who knows what's going to happen with Peacemaker in ten years, five years, or whatever."
This comes after rumors that Emilia Harcourt, played by Jennifer Holland in Peacemaker, would appear in Black Adam, which is set to premiere in theaters July 29, 2022, though her appearance has not been confirmed. Harcourt appears in HBO Max's Peacemaker as part of the ARGUS team tasked with handling John Cena's Peacemaker in the field, alongside John Economos (Steve Agee), Leota Adebayo (Danielle Brookes) and Clemson Murn (Chukwudi Iwuji).
Gunn stated prior to the premiere of Peacemaker that The Suicide Squad spinoff series would connect to the DCEU at large, which has been confirmed by the series itself with references to heroes like Superman, Batman, Aquaman and Christopher Smith/Peacemaker's fellow Task Force X teammates, Harley Quinn, Bloodsport and Rick Flag.
In November 2021, Black Adam producer Hiram Garcia addressed whether the Multiverse, which will be introduced in The Flash, would factor into the Dwayne Johnson-led film. "I don't know if we're going to address it, but everything in that DC universe we like to think of is connected somehow," he said. "And so the multiverse exists around our characters as well in our world. Not that you're necessarily going to feel that in our movie, but it is very much a thing, right? We know that there's going to be some other multiverse factors in there that we know exist."
Peacemaker picks up after the events of The Suicide Squad. Announced as a television series in 2020, Cena will reprise his The Suicide Squad role for the upcoming HBO Max original series. "This guy is a loud, obnoxious, bro-ey douchebag," Cena previously said about his character. "That sucks. But why? At what point did he become such a douchebag and what does that mean? There's a lot to dive into there."
New episodes of Peacemaker air Thursdays on HBO Max.
