WARNING: The following article contains major spoilers for the Season 1 finale of Peacemaker, now streaming on HBO Max.

Fans of the DCEU were taken aback by a major cameo in the season finale of Peacemaker.

Towards the end of the episode, a victorious Christopher Smith marches through a war-torn field. As the moonlight shines down on his exhausted squad, the camera reveals that four silhouettes are standing in their way. These figures are none other than a partially assembled Justice League. While Jason Momoa and Ezra Miller reprise their roles as Aquaman and the Flash respectively, the shadows cast over Superman and Wonder Woman suggest stand-in actors were used to fill the parts. As can be expected, Peacemaker hurls some foul language at the team, mocking them for arriving so late, before walking past. The surprise cameo delighted fans, many of whom took to social media to express their excitement.

While many fans were pleased to see the Justice League return to action, others were less happy that both Batman and Cyborg were absent from the line-up. Despite this, the brief interaction between Aquaman and Flash was enough to satisfy audiences looking for more than just a shadowy appearance. The arrival of the Justice League is the most notable connection Peacemaker establishes with the greater DCEU.

If the appearance of Superman and his team of world-saving heroes wasn't enough, Peacemaker has been full of surprising moments that fans have loved. The unexpected confirmation that Bat-Mite, an extra-dimensional imp that labels himself as Batman's biggest fan, is canon in the DCEU, the show also broke new ground in terms of representation. Episode seven saw Christopher Smith confirmed as the first male bisexual character in the cinematic universe, a revelation that was received positively by fans.

Along the way, Peacemaker is forced to question many of the morals and values he holds dear to him as the series explores his twisted outlook, all spurred on by his abusive father.

All eight episodes of Peacemaker are now streaming on HBO Max.
