James Gunn announces that Season 1 of Peacemaker is nearly wrapped."The last two days we wrapped [Danielle Brooks], [Jennifer Holland], [Steve Agee] and Chukwudi Iwuji on Season One of Peacemaker," Gunn wrote on Twitter. "I love making a TV show. I love everything we're doing with it. And I love making it with these people. Can't wait for you to see them laugh, cry, & kick ass." When asked if filming had finished, Gunn clarified they had one day left to film with John Cena and Freddie Stroma. Holland will reprise her The Suicide Squad role as well as NSA agent Emilia Harcourt, Agee will return as John Economos and Brooks portrays a character named Leota Adebayo. Stroma boarded the project in May 2021 as Adrian Chase/Vigilante, a replacement for Chris Conrad who left the project due to creative differences.

Announced as a television series in 2020, Cena will reprise his The Suicide Squad role for the upcoming HBO Max series. "This guy is a loud, obnoxious, bro-ey douchebag," Cena recently said about his character. "That sucks. But why? At what point did he become such a douchebag and what does that mean? There's a lot to dive into there." Peacemaker is set to arrive in 2022.

When the series was first announced, Gunn, writer/director of The Suicide Squad and producer of Peacemaker, also said that the series "is an opportunity to delve into current world issues through the lens of this superhero/supervillain/and world’s biggest douchebag." He said, "I'm excited to expand The Suicide Squad and bring this character from the DC film universe to the full breadth of a series."

Produced by James Gunn, Peacemaker stars John Cena, Steve Agee, Danielle Brooks, Robert Patrick, Jennifer Holland, Chris Conrad, Chukwudi Iwuji, Lochlyn Munro, Annie Chang, Alison Araya, Lenny Jacobson, Elizabeth Faith Ludlow, Rizwan Manji and Christopher Heyerdahl. The series premieres on HBO Max in January 2022.
