For a long time before the release fo Avengers: Endgame, there were a wide range of theories regarding how the titular superhero team could defeat Thanos and the Infinity Stones. One of the most popular theories concerned Ant-Man going up into the Mad Titan. This was known as the 'Thanus Theory.'

Actor Paul Rudd recently touched on the theory and explained why it wouldn't work in a new video for the "Avengers: Quantum Encounter" section on the Disney Cruise. "First of all, gross." He began.

This is not the first time Rudd or Marvel Studios has acknowledged and addressed the theory. When the theory first began to circulate online, Rudd questioned the logic of it all in an interview, stating, "A lot of people have asked me recently if I shrink down and go… into Thanos, in a certain orifice, and then grow giant size... But why not the ear or the nose? Why does it have to be [that]?"

Moreover, Avengers: Endgame writer Stephen Markus previously explained, "Thanos could take a punch from the Hulk, we've seen that. And it stands to reason his whole body is at least as strong as that... If Ant-Man expanded, he would be simply crushed against the immovable walls of Thanos’ mighty rectum."

Rudd and Evangeline Lilly are set to appear in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which is currently filming. Ant-Man and the Wasp were last seen at Tony Stark's funeral in Endgame. Their whereabouts during the current phase of the MCU have not yet been revealed. It has been reported the main antagonist of the upcoming film will be Kang the Conquerer, played by Jonathan Majors. The villain will be one of several reported variants of the character who appeared in the Loki series on Disney+. It's uncertain how many variants of the villain will appear in the film or whether all of them will be antagonists.

Premiering in 2019, Avengers: Endgame concluded what is referred to as the Infinity Saga, which began with 2008's Iron Man and covered the assembly of the titular superhero team and their battle against the greatest opponent they have ever faced. It saw the departure of both Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans as Iron Man and Captain America, respectively, and made way for a new saga in Phase 4.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is set to arrive in theaters on Feb. 17, 2023.
