Netflix announced that Ghostbusters director Paul Feig will direct a film adaptation of the first novel from The School for Good and Evil series by Soman Chainani.

Feig spoke on how excited he was to work on the project. He stated, "I'm truly excited to bring this amazing, touching, funny, and empowering world that Soman created in his wonderful books to life. I feel like a frog that just turned into a prince."

Chainani expressed his eagerness to work with Feig in bringing the book to the screen. "To have one of your favorite directors adapt your book into a film for Netflix is an honor and a dream," he said, adding, "Paul Feig is a brilliant filmmaker and a master of tone — a perfect fit for the twists and turns of The School for Good & Evil. I have no doubt that he will make a true fairy tale classic."

The School for Good and Evil centers on Sophie, a princess who aspired to join the School for Good, where she hopes to "join the ranks of past students like Cinderella and Snow White." Instead she is chosen for the School of Evil, while Agatha, a seemingly obvious choice for the villainous School of Evil, is chosen for the School of Good. The surprising turn of events puts their friendship to the test.

After the first novel was published in 2013, the School for Good and Evil book series has gone on to sell over 2.5 million copies while landing on the New York Times' best-sellers list. The final novel The School for Good and Evil: One True King will be released on June 2.
