Wonder Woman isn't done in the DCEU and the third instalment of her solo saga is very much still on the way, according to Patty Jenkins. While it was intended to be the last in a trilogy, there may be more in the future.

Speaking at the Matera Film Festival, Jenkins explained she originally intended to just do one Wonder Woman film and that she ended up planning a three-movie arc. "I just wrote last week the final scene for Wonder Woman 3 and I thought, 'I'd be interested to see what happens next.'" She added, "They have asked us to think of ways to do more and it accidentally happens, but you never know. I have a lot of other films I'm excited to do as well."

Wonder Woman 3 was officially announced in 2019, shortly after Wonder Woman 1984 had wrapped filming. Jenkins had indicated back then that the plot had already been mapped out, though she did not divulge any details to the public, except for the fact that it would take place in the modern era, unlike its predecessors, which unfolded during various periods throughout the 21st century.

While the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic cast doubt on the future of the Wonder Woman film series, Warner Bros. officially gave the third instalment the green light in December 2020 and confirmed that it would be released in theaters, unlike many blockbuster films at the time. Since then, news has been scarce. Wonder Woman 3 is not the only project Jenkins is working on within the DCEU, however.

She also previously announced the development of a spinoff film centered on the Amazons of Themyscira. Jenkins will serve as executive producer on the untitled project and suggested it would tie into the overarching storyline of all the Wonder Woman films. At the time, she said, "I'm not going to direct it, hopefully. I’m going to try really hard not to. It’s not going to be easy."

Since Gal Gadot debuted as Wonder Woman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, she has appeared several times throughout DCEU films that followed, including Justice League, Wonder Woman and Wonder Woman 1984. It was previously reported Diana will appear in the upcoming film, The Flash, though this has not been officially confirmed.

Wonder Woman 3 does not yet have an official release date.
