Wonder Woman 1984 director Patty Jenkins has expressed uncertainty about moving forward with Wonder Woman 3, despite having already crafted its story.

In a recent interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Jenkins revealed she and Geoff Johns have already "beat out an entire story for 'Wonder Woman 3' that we were super fired up about." She continued, "But I've never felt this way before as much as I do now." She went on to explain, "I sort of --, I don't think I'm doing it next and so I have to sort of wait and see where we are in the world, you know? What I wanted to talk about in [Wonder Woman 1984] was very prescient to what I was feeling and what you were sort of feeling was coming. So now I'm not sure. So much has changed in the world."

Previously, Jenkins had confirmed she's already started developing Wonder Woman 3, in addition to a spinoff film about the Amazons that would bridge the gap between the second and third Wonder Woman movies. "I still love the [Wonder Woman 3] story," she said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, adding "I'm sure parts of it, would come over to it, but… I'm trying to say [to myself], 'Don't decide. Don't fall in love with anything. What would Wonder Woman do now? Like, what are you craving Wonder Woman to do now in this world?”

Were Jenkins to direct Wonder Woman 3, she has said it would be a "contemporary story" and not a period piece like the first two Wonder Woman movies. However, when asked, she avoided specifying whether it would take place in the present-day or future.

Jenkins is set to direct the Star Wars movie Rogue Squadron, which she says she will not be based on the popular 1998 Star Wars video game of the same name or any previously-published novels. It is scheduled to hit theaters on Dec. 22, 2023.
