Patton Oswalt, the co-creator and lead voice actor behind Hulu's adult animated series Marvel's M.O.D.O.K., has addressed the show's recent cancellation."*sigh* oh well," Oswalt wrote on Twitter. "Got to work with the best writers, a dream voice cast, and [Marvel] let us run amok in their toy box. Another great experience. Based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, M.O.D.O.K. was created for Hulu by Oswalt and Jordan Blum. The series also stars Oswalt as the voice of the eponymous Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing, who juggles being a supervillain with his troubled home life.

M.O.D.O.K. dropped its 10-episode first season on Hulu on May 21, 2021, being met with predominately positive reception. There was no word regarding whether or not the Marvel series would continue until May 13, 2022, when it came to light that the show had indeed been canceled.

Blum and Oswalt's cartoon was originally slated to stream on Hulu as part of a much larger lineup of adult animated series based on Marvel comic book characters. In addition to M.O.D.O.K., this lineup was expected to include Marvel's Hit-Monkey, Marvel's Tigra & Dazzler and Marvel's Howard the Duck. The four shows would have then crossed over in an event series titled Marvel's The Offenders (an obvious play on Netflix's own live-action Marvel crossover series The Defenders).

However, plans for The Offenders effectively went out the window when Tigra & Dazzler and Howard the Duck were preemptively canceled. Still, M.O.D.O.K. and Hit-Monkey remained on track, with the former premiering in May 2021 and the latter premiering in November 2021. Like M.O.D.O.K., Hit-Monkey has been met with positive reception from fans and critics alike -- arguably even moreso. That said, Variety reports that with M.O.D.O.K.'s cancellation, the chances of Hit-Monkey being renewed for Season 2 are slim to none.
