Patton Oswalt Joins Odd Thomas

Comedian, writer and actor Patton Oswalt is joining the rapidly expanding cast of Odd Thomas, director Stephen Sommers’ adaptation of the popular Dean Koontz novels, Variety reports.

The supernatural thriller stars Anton Yelchin as a 20-year-old short-order cook who can see the spirits of the dead. Odd’s first adventure, in the 2003 novel Odd Thomas, involves finding the killer of a young girl and averting a disaster that threatens the small desert town of Pico Mundo, Calif.

Oswalt will play Oswald “Ozzie” P. Boone, an eccentric artist who designs sculptures, including a steel pendant that Odd wears around his neck. Addison Timlin, Willem Dafoe and Nico Tortorella are also in negotiations to join the film.

The Fusion Films production, with a budget of $20 million to $30 million, will shoot in New Mexico later this spring and summer. Sommers, who also wrote the screenplay, is producing along with Fusion’s John Baldecchi and Howard Kaplan.

Oswalt, who’s appeared in such television series as The King of Queens and Reno 911! and in such films as Blade: Trinity and The Informant!, has a recurring role on Showtime’s United States of Tara.
