After swirling revival rumors and a prolonged development process, Starz' cult classic catering comedy Party Down has been greenlit for six new episodes, with the entire ensemble cast, except Lizzy Caplan, returning to reprise their original roles.

Deadline reports that the delay between the news of the Party Down revival's development and the official greenlighting was largely due to cast negotiations and scheduling. A small premium cable comedy from Rob Thomas, off the heels of Veronica Mars, 2009's Party Down starred Caplan, Adam Scott, Jane Lynch, Ken Marino, Martin Starr, Ryan Hansen and Megan Mullally. While many of the show's stars were busy enough at the time, those schedules have proven even more of a herculean balancing act when attempting to put together the revival.

Unfortunately for fans of Caplan's sarcastic stand-up Casey, the Mean Girls actor was the only hold-out from the original cast whose schedule could not quite accommodate Party Down's anticipated early 2022 production. Deadline cites Caplan's upcoming role in the FX limited series Fleishman Is in Trouble as the reason why she could not return for the revival, as the productions of both projects overlap. Fresh from voicing Reagan Ridley on Netflix's Inside Job, Caplan's schedule remains loaded into the new year with Paramount+'s Fatal Attraction series.

Though Caplan's exclusion from the Party Down reboot has disappointed some fans, most remain excited for the long-anticipated return to the chaotic events catered by the titular, dysfunctional catering company. Over a decade since the original series aired, a return to catering may indicate that the majority of Party Down's aspiring Hollywood success stories have not yet caught their respective big breaks in the industry. In fact, with Caplan's absence, Casey may be deemed as the only member of the catering crew to find success in her respective creative career.

As production gets underway, fans may also hope for return guest appearances outside of the core cast, as the original two seasons of Party Down boasted stars such as Jennifer Coolidge, Kristen Bell, Ken Jeong and J.K. Simmons in smaller roles. In the meantime, the announced cast has taken to celebrating their forthcoming on-screen reunion on social media. Marino even took time to answer some fans burning questions about the series, including his take on aioli, on Twitter.

In addition to returning to the role of Henry, Scott will once more serve as executive producer on Party Down alongside Thomas, Paul Rudd, Dan Etheridge and the revival's showrunner John Enbom.

The first two seasons of Party Down's original run are available to stream on Starz.
