Paramount Pictures announced during CineEurope 2019 plans for a ninth installment in the popular Paranormal Activity franchise. The Paranormal Activity series took the found footage genre to new heights and blossomed into a blockbuster horror phenomenon after starting out as a low-budget haunted house movie.

According to Deadline, Paramount offered attendees at CineEurope a sneak peek at their upcoming films, including Gemini Man and Sonic The Hedgehog. Paramount Studio Chairman and CEO Jim Gianopulos made his official announcement about the next Paranormal Activity sequel. After The Ghost Dimension back in 2015, Paramount was working on the seventh installment and there was even a Japanese remake, Paranormal Activity 2: Tokyo Night.

“We are partnering with uber horror producer Jason Blum to bring a new installment of Paranormal Activity,” said Gianopulos.

Because the upcoming sequel is in early development, there are no stars, nor is a screenwriter attached. A proposed title for the ninth sequel hasn't even been released yet. Blumhouse has a history of keeping their own horror franchises rolling along steadily, with four Insidious movies and The Purge series, which surpassed its four sequels and became a television series on USA Network.

Though Paramount is being tight-lipped, we do know Jason Blum, the founder and CEO of Blumhouse Productions, is working on the next Paranormal Activity entry, among other projects. Blumhouse released a poster for their remake of the slasher classic Black ChristmasMattel Films and Blumhouse are working on a story together about the Magic 8-Ball, with Jeff Wadlow (Truth or Dare) attached to write and direct.
